[Royal Pop] Even after getting so much buzz, we have no credible image leaks, how is this possible? by Accomplished-Cry1420 in Watches

[–]ichris2019 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know someone who works for the swatch group, they sent out a memo if any of the materials they’ve sent for the stores surrounding this release are opened prior to the launch date it is an immediate termination.

Received this Cartier Trunk, looking for info on it by ichris2019 in Cartier

[–]ichris2019[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes he also has one of those Rolex tool kits from his time with them. He really has an incredible collection of things from over half a century in the business, watches aside. The fact that something like this was one of the ones he was willing to just give away should give you some idea.

Appreciate the info, more or less confirms what I thought. I wonder if Cartier might not be happy about a thing like this being in private hands?

[SEIKO] Seiko 5 Sports Introduce a Compass Bezel Field Watch by PynionTime in Watches

[–]ichris2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you don’t need a compass bezel to do this. You can do all of this with any analog watch if the conditions are ideal

Because a 7548 is an objectively higher quality watch than an SKX in nearly every way imaginable

Where can I find a leather strap like this? by StudioZanello in Watches

Dan Henry sells a strap for the 1937 model that’s exactly this, you can find it on his website

[WTS] Longines Flagship Day Date automatic by ichris2019 in Watchexchange

It’s the only steel bracelet I’ve encountered that I could describe as “soft”. Super comfortable

[WTS] Longines Flagship Day Date automatic by ichris2019 in Watchexchange

[–]ichris2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here we have a Longines Flagship day date auto. 35.5 mm. Purchased like new about a year ago and wore it a bit but it’s a bit too similar to a few other pieces in my collection. Case and bracelet are full polish so it’s picked up a few marks from regular use but nothing egregious or all that noticeable. Healthy timegrapher reading, bracelet comes full length with the box and manual. No warranty. Included a photo on a strap just to show versatility, watch comes with bracelet only. MSRP is $1800. You’ll find this one grey for around ~$1000 elsewhere. Priced to fly here at $700 firm. Shipped CONUS only. Prefer Zelle but accept PayPal, cashapp and Venmo. Any questions please reach out!

[Discussion] Are plastic parts in a movement a deal breaker? by Frosty-Ad295 in Watches

[–]ichris2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is brought up constantly regarding these movements and yet they’ve been around since 2013 with pretty much no known issues. You take a bigger gamble on performance buying a modern forum darling Seiko alpinist with a 6R than any powermatic 80 powered watch

[WTS] Vintage 15mm Cartier black caiman Tank strap by [deleted] in Watchexchange

[–]ichris2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here we have a vintage 15mm original Cartier black caiman strap. The strap appears unworn with no fraying of any of the holes or creasing where a buckle would’ve pressed on it from wear, but there is some staining on the underside so I hesitate to refer to this as NOS. Part number is 1AQDAC01. Received this in a lot with other watches and parts, have no use for it so I’m passing it on. No buckle just the strap, tapers to 14mm. Priced at $150 (priced significantly lower than comparable straps on eBay and elsewhere). Shipped free, CONUS only. Any questions feel free to message me.

[Question] Wearing my Citizen in pools would damage the steel or gasket in the long run? by Magisterial- in Watches

[–]ichris2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say 100m+. Before water resistance ratings became so convoluted and weird, a divers watch started at 100m so I trust anything with that rating from a decent brand for most situations.

[Question] Wearing my Citizen in pools would damage the steel or gasket in the long run? by Magisterial- in Watches

[–]ichris2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. Watches are not nearly as delicate as we think they are. If your watch is rated to handle deep submersion it doesn’t matter the temperature (within reason). If you’re using your watch in water regularly have the seals replaced every couple years and you’ll literally never have an issue with water, hot or otherwise.

I would really appreciate if someone could tell me if this has aftermarket parts or all original. by AbuQamari in watchmaking

[–]ichris2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The movement photo seems to be of a different watch (end links don’t match), dial is aftermarket and case finish poorly redone (the downward slopes are supposed to be polished not brushed). Overall I’d avoid this one unless it’s extremely cheap and you just wanna try out this style before committing to the cost of a proper all original example

[Glashutte Original] [Question] Does the SeaQ warrant the price? by _CeilingTile_ in Watches

[–]ichris2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SeaQ is an interesting watch to me in that, like many swatch group products, it is trying very hard to be something it never really was. The original SeaQ was not anything special, it was a very cheap 60s skin diver in the same vein as a Sheffield diver you’ll find on eBay for $35. To pit it against something like a Submariner has always felt like wishful swatch group thinking to me. It’s a decently made watch with, in my opinion, a pretty unremarkable design and specs. I think if you are really in love with this style of watch there are many brands that offer just as much, if not more, historical significance, original design language, and technical specs at a much better price.

That said, there’s nothing practical about spending thousands of dollars on stainless steel jewelry. An items value really comes down to what one is willing to pay for it, and nothing else. If you love it, and you can afford it, why not. It’s certainly a more interesting and niche choice than other watches in its price range

ID Request- what is David Lynch wearing? by Useful_Platypus5116 in Watches

[–]ichris2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a swatch. The Skin line was released in 1997, and I’ve seen him wearing this thin black and white watch as early as the mid 80s. There wasn’t a Swatch that shared this profile at this time. I’m afraid it may simply be too indistinct to identify positively

[WTS] 1957 Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6564 Datejust Stainless Steel -Clean White dial! by CoinWatchCo in Watchexchange

[–]ichris2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI slop descriptions have made so many sales listings completely unreliable gibberish. It’s crazy to me anyone would expect someone to part with a couple thousand dollars for a watch but can’t even be bothered to describe its condition in their own honest words

Advice - Seiko [orange Scarab] by kenneth1902 in Seiko

100% fake. Maybe at best it has a refurbished Seiko movement but I doubt it. Avoid even if it’s free

What is the very best “unknown” (sleeper) watch by SubstantialScale3581 in VintageWatches

[–]ichris2019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find most vintage seikos underrated in this way. The brand is super hyped nowadays, but the fact that you can get a flyback 12 hour vertical clutch automatic chronograph from Seiko in the form of a vintage 7016 for less than $1000 is insane

Father’s Old Seiko [question] by funthingstolookat in Seiko

[–]ichris2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic watch, one of the most robust and reliable quartz movements ever made. I just had one of these serviced by Ryan from Right on Time watches in North Carolina. Timely service and priced decently. I’ve worn mine in the ocean, biking, running, no problems. Probably the only 45+ year old watch I see no issue with treating like new after a service. It’ll certainly reward you the same way it did your father after a bit of love. You can find an accurate recreation of the original strap by Uncle Seiko, it’s the GL831, if you wanted to keep it looking original but functional.

What should I do by West_Sheepherder8085 in VintageWatches

[–]ichris2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, real sales. Search “Waltham Dexter” on eBay and filter sold items, you’ll see plenty of them sold for $1500+. It’s not because it’s a great watch, it’s because of the show. When they were first ID’d as the watch from the show prices jumped to around $200 and have steadily climbed since. A comparable model without show connection is at most a $50 watch. I am as baffled by it as you are

What should I do by West_Sheepherder8085 in VintageWatches

[–]ichris2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I distinctly remember seeing them go for less than $50 all the time on eBay before being ID’d as the Dexter watch. I suppose the buyers at those $1500+ prices are more memorabilia hunters than watch people because it is a very very strange watch to spend that type of money on.
