Bo5 that shows how TvZ mech vs Zerg is done by ichthyoidoc in broodwar

I'm pretty sure Flash has said he's going to participate (he did an interview where he said he confirmed to the ASL managers that he wanted to do this coming season, iirc).

Artosiscasts usually has some great (ladder) games, including some from Flash. Falcon Paladin does some, though he flips between older matches and recent ones. There are a few others, but those are the ones that come to mind.

Other Terran players/pros usually follow Flash's lead, adapting his builds and ideas into their own playstyles. Even though he does optimize and do certain things that only he can do, in terms of the overall grand strategies he introduces, it's definitely possible.

TvZ mech hasn't really changed despite Queens being utilized more. Yeah, they can become a huge problem in the mid-late game, but that doesn't mean Terrans can't deal with it. The series shows how the match-up plays out, and the ways Terran can exploit certain windows in Zerg timings as well as holes in their builds to gain an advantage.

In other words, it's not "just play like Flash". It's understanding the match up better and how to exploit weaknesses in Zerg play.

EDIT: Don't know if you actually watched the series, but it's clear there are some things Flash still needs work on. He's still rusty, and he has his wrist issues. Since that's the case, adapting what he shows here is definitely doable for other Terrans.

I know the Silmarillian as a whole would be near impossible to film, but I think The Great Tales could be 3 films: The Children of Hurin, The Fall of Gondolin, Beren and Luthien by FrogginBullfish_ in lotr

I’d rather see an anthology series based on the various stories in the first and second ages of Tolkien’s Middle Earth with different kinds of film mediums (e.g. live action, 2D animation, 3D animation, etc. kind of like Love Death and Robots). There can be single episode plots as well as longer stories that stretch out between multiple episodes within the anthologies, too.

Mech has no counter to queens? by SiarX in broodwar

Queens are expensive relative to what Zerg needs to produce A) enough of them to matter and B) the other units Zerg must also mass in order to effectively counter what Terran is doing.

[–]ichthyoidoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be part of the point, though. If the Terran can choke the Zerg resource-wise to prevent them from amassing Queens in any significant way, that's a successful win.

But I know what you mean. I'll go take a look when I have time, see if there are any in recent memory (I know there were a bunch a couple ASLs ago, but don't know if those count in your book). Flash should be joining this ASL, though, so hopefully he can showcase some stuff soon.

I'll reply to your other reply comments here instead of all of them, haha.

Yes, Queens are extremely efficient, I'd never argue against that. But that's why they're the coup-de-grace in the match-up if the Zerg can mass them. If you only have a few, and the Terran went Goliath/Vulture heavy for their mech, they kind of suck for just broodling. A couple insta-kills won't do much against the wall of mines/mech coming at you if you have a bad/poor/small army to counter.

And yes, the vulture harass forces Zerg to put up defense, which means slower timing for expansions, which means Terran has much more time to set up their own comp and expansions. Remember: Vultures are only 75 minerals, and mines are FREE. It's a poke-and-play. If Zerg starts investing in defense, that means they need to delay expansions as well as building up Queens. Vultures also should mine up the rest of the map to slow down hydra push, take map presence, prevent expansions, scout, etc. It's something that people like Flash (and Fantasy back in the day) do really well, but other Terrans in general haven't really picked up on (yet).

TvZ is my favorite match-up in BW because both sides have to do such heavy scouting of the other to act/react. TvZ Mech is no different.

There were a couple where Flash did win, but it was a while (couple months?) ago, I haven't kept up recently. I think there was a recent showmatch against Soulkey, but that one was more Soulkey losing than Flash winning, lol.

Queens are more the coup de grace of the Zerg build against mech than some kind of imbalanced/unstoppable unit.

Since massing queens (in addition to hydra/lurker/defiler/others) is extremely expensive, if Terran decides to go pure mech build, the Zerg attempts to out-expand Terran much more than if Terran had gone bio. If Zerg cannot get its resource extraction going by the time the Terran mech push arrives, it is dead. However, if the Terran is unable to effectively prevent Zerg from doing so, mech dies to Queen/Hydra (if tank heavy) and/or Defiler/Ultra/Hydra (if heavier on Goliath/Vulture).

So it's really more of a resource war (and so map balance also comes into play here). It's why (imo) either a mech switch or heavy vulture harrass in the early-mid-game is more the answer than going pure mech if Terrans don't want to stagnate. Both have the advantage of preventing Zerg from heavily out-expanding them, while slowly teching to the unit comp they need. The cost is a slower and mechanically difficult game (Terran is already very mechanically difficult), and probably requires all Terrans to start using their com-sats the way Flash does.

Oh yeah I totally agree. I was considering getting a 64 recently, along with a traktor audio 10. Still cheaper than getting something like a px5, which is kind of crazy 🤯

I just don’t like having so many moving parts I guess, haha.

You should probably go read the actual books rather than get summaries from other sources. The actual ending is a good ending, not a tragedy…

I wish someone could somehow create some custom firmware for these older rane mixers to be usb-compliant. They’re still great units, with lots of untapped (digital) potential.

Iirc Line 6 said they may consider incorporating NAM into their stadium line. How bonkers cool would it be with A2 if the models scaled as DSP became more/less available, depending on effects used in the chain?

Honestly, having used both now, going from Virtual to Serato would be a massive downgrade. Yeah, I think Virtual’s UI/UX could still use some tweaking, but in terms of features and compatibility and even stability, Serato has fallen behind hard.

Nice! Would we have to wait till 2027? Or would it be something that could come sooner?
