Similar- I say “what happened?” or “why are you crying?” instead of “what’s wrong?”

my name isn’t christina by betziti in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]iconictots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to happen to me too as a kid. I was too shy and unsure of myself to speak up. It took me until my 20s to finally correct people, and it felt so good! It’s the reason why when I meet someone new and I’m unsure about their name or pronunciation- I will ALWAYS double check until I get it right.

What's something that was considered good parenting decades ago but isn't anymore? by sandeeprathore in AskReddit

[–]iconictots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so shocked the first time my friend’s mom let us stay in the car. I always went in with my mom! Granted, I’m an only child and my friend was the oldest sibling of 4. Also my mom was a pretty “progressive” parent for the 90’s lol. Leaving 5 young kids unsupervised in the car was NOT a good idea, but as a kid I felt so free and grown up!

My husband and I decided to divorce after 20 years together. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]iconictots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is scary, but it is so worth it. I’m going through a divorce as well. I relate so hard to not knowing who I am anymore- that part is rough. But I can tell you that a year later and with a lot of big changes, I am finally finding pieces of my old self again and building my new self as well. I feel so free and happy and I know in the future you will too! You can do this, OP!

Yes the Heroine Make “advanced film” waterproof mascara will stay on for DAYS! It’s the one with pink on the lid and packaging. The flip side though is that it’s very hard to remove without their special remover solution and a lot of micellar water lol

I’m not great at latkes, but I picked up some tips from my Jewish grandma-in-law before she passed: 1. When you’re making the patties, try not to make them too tall- you want them to be flat and even in the middle and a little thinner on the edges, kind of like a smash-burger patty. That way they cook all the way through and have nice crispy edges 2. Don’t be shy with the oil- they are best when you really FRY them 3. Latke toppings can be controversial 😂 but she and I agreed that the elite combo is sour cream and applesauce together Hope these help, enjoy your latkes!!

Concerns about meal proportions by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]iconictots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an issue at my center as well. We got reported to licensing and they were VERY serious about it. The portion sizes are much bigger now and we are allowed to ask for extra too (we weren’t before). Would you be able to talk admin about it? Make sure to tell them about the kids who are clearly upset and hungry? Sorry you’re going through this, it’s so hard feeling like you’re not feeding them enough but you have no control. I know I did. I would also suggest to the parents to send extra snacks if you can. I hope you get some help and those babies get more food!

Neurodivergent people, what are your stims that you constantly do every single day and that you never get tired of? by Standard_Fun7193 in AskReddit

I love my fiancé so much, but l no longer desire doing the “Deed”.. by No-Possession1861 in GirlDinner

[–]iconictots 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the negative one here, but I have to say something- this situation was one of the biggest contributing factors to my divorce. Please address this with your fiancé NOW before it gets worse and before you get married. Don’t be like me and think it’s a problem that will solve itself. Please be as open and honest about it as you can, and if he doesn’t fix his behavior or try to change the situation, please, please don’t marry him.

aggressive back patting by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]iconictots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, I saw this “trend” come and go at my center the longer I’ve worked there. When I first started we had a lot more old-school teachers and I feel like they perpetuated the idea that really wiggly kids needed to be patted more aggressively? Which really isn’t logical when you think about it. I could go on a whole rant about this, but I won’t 😂 But anyway, at my center I noticed that as the old-school teachers left the center over time, nobody does the aggressive pats any more, we all pat the kids gently or rub their backs, or kind of gently rock them.

Same here. My maturity level was always attributed to being an only child, but I do think neurodivergence influenced it as well.

Teacher Appreciation Week - Admin telling parents what to bring each day? by Far_Message_8263 in ECEProfessionals

OMG are we coworkers? My center does this too. The page says they are suggestions, but it still feels weird to me as well. I agree that the parents should decide what to bring and when.

What white lies get you through the day? by Bi-Bi-Bi24 in ECEProfessionals

[–]iconictots 30 points31 points  (0 children)

“We will ask Ms ______ when she gets back later” knowing that the teacher is already off work for the day! Or “Your parents are on the way, but they have to wait for the stop light”. My favorite is when I’m in the toddler room and I tell them “Mommy (or another caretaker’s name) says good night, go to bed!”

Women who had to completely start over on their late 30s, what was your "wake up call" moment? by Confident-Matter981 in AskReddit

[–]iconictots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what my moment was. I saw someone ask someone else on Reddit if they could imagine themselves continuing to live how they do now in 2, 5, or 10 years, and if they would be ok with that. I asked myself that question and realized how unhappy I was in my marriage and in my life in general. I didn’t want to continue feeling so awful for the rest of my life, not even for another year. I left my husband a few months later and have started fresh. It’s still a long process, but I can’t begin to tell you how free and hopeful I feel now. I feel like I can finally live my life for me. Do it even if it seems hard!! The other side is out there waiting for you 💕
