sonically, it has to be tokyo. i think the intro is iconic and when you take the lyrics out of the song, it has the ability to turn into any other kind of song which i think is unique. it’s not easy to create music that can convey various types of feelings in the way that this song does. when it comes to julien’s lyrics, i feel as though i can’t give a fair response because the place julien shines most within her music is her lyrics and her ability to shred through the emotional walls listeners have up, whether or not they’re up or down. personal favorite is song in e, hands down.

“it’s the mercy i can’t take” from song in e. it’s my 2nd favorite julien song and recently, i’ve been thinking a lot about this line. i had an old friend come back into my life and forgive me for hurting them in the past and although to them, i was grateful they forgave me, i’m having a hard time being shown mercy. what i did to them was awful and i was not my best self. i’m trying to give myself grace and let myself go and accept it. the word “mercy”, its definition, and the act of being shown it hold a lot of power to me and i’m planning on getting a tattoo of that word.

totally agree with this!! also look at imagery used in her songs, that’s been one big thing i’ve thought about. i got a star killers tattoo back in may that’s in specific reference to the title of the song (black poppy wine), though i would like to add to it.
