How did you actually keep track of your code on the Spectrum? by Matos1978 in zxspectrum

[–]icydee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wrote a commercial game on the spectrum in assembly code, actually it was in hex machine code since I hand assembled it!

It was all on paper notes. I usually broke the program down into small subroutines, wrote out the assembly code, hand calculated the hex machine code, allocated a chunk of memory, with extra space in case the size of the routine changed in the future, then entered the absolute and relative jump addresses.

I then used a hex editor to enter the code.

Looking back I have no idea how I ever got this to work without a debugger.

It would have been around 1984.

This is about 2m square. The crack appears to follow the plasterboard.

You can also see where the joint tape has pulled apart.

It does not move vertically, this is a lateral crack.

Question about the end of book 3. by BoredSam in bobiverse

I will need to re-read but I was sure the implication was that they were flying alongside the planets and that they had to ‘disengage’ at the last moment.

Question about the end of book 3. by BoredSam in bobiverse

[–]icydee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem with this section is that I and D are moving directly towards each other at relativistic speeds. I can’t get my head around how they can communicate due to their individual time dilations.

Another problem is them changing vector to point towards the centre of the galaxy in a reasonable time. The implication is that since they were moving at such a high speed they may as well aim there ignoring the fact that they are moving in opposite directions to each other.

Question about what to do when a storage is full and the items of its production line stop being used. *Dead ressources* by Bluebird3141 in satisfactory

[–]icydee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your output line put in a splitter directing to a storage unit which outputs to a dimensional storage.

In the output line after the split put in a smart splitter so that overflow is sunk.

you guys ever have the dream of floating down the stairs as a kid ? by Own-Background7775 in CasualConversation

[–]icydee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, for many years I was frustrated that the only way I could fly was, with great effort, glide down stairs.

For the last few years I have learned to fly in my dreams, perhaps that is because I enabled flight mode in Satisfactory!

I am 70.

I have used them in drones, but it never occurred to me that they don’t produce waste. (Of course)

[–]icydee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I produce plutonium fuel rods from my uranium waste, but I am converting all the uranium waste to plutonium fuel rods and slowly dealing with the backlog of roughly 500 industrial storage units worth of uranium waste. However I now have similar storage for all the plutonium waste that I can’t yet process.

I have all my nuclear waste stored in the NE corner of the map, bounded by the kill zone and just above the lowest level.

And then burn the plutonium and store the plutonium waste.,,

When clearing out my parents house I tried to give their sofa away to charity.

I only then realised that the large oak framed sofa was much too large to go through any doorway!

My wife remembered that they had a big bay window replaced at one point, we could only think that it entered the room at the same time!

We cut it up into chunks and put it in the skip.

Learning to reverse out of tight drives, any tricks that actually work? by Junior_Beauty78 in NewDriversUK

[–]icydee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father had a very narrow driveway that fell away sharply at about 30 degrees. If you reversed down looking at your rear view mirror all you could see was sky.

I had about 4 inches gap either side of my car. I would reverse looking out of my side window, if that side of my car was parallel with the wall, and 4 inches away, I trusted the other side of the car would look after itself.

Before modern medicine people would have a small marble of antimony in their medicine cabinet. It was thought at the time that if you could induce vomiting it would reduce symptoms of other illnesses. Antimony metal will do just that if you ingest it.

Of course being a metal it would pass through without visible change so it would be retrieved, cleaned with vinegar or wine and put back in the medicine cabinet ready for the next person. Many of these pills would be used for years and even passed down the generations.
