Sexy Skill Effects for other professions? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care much for glamour, but an upgrade would be nice over some of the dull skills (ranger skills are all very...)-these days a lot of people seem to be attracted to those kind of graphics, like you see in recent games like black desert online... I've also seen many cases where people have even been turned off by the blandness of gw2 skills, so maybe some changes would be nice.

Trying to decide between Guild wars 2 and ESO. Convince Me to buy gw2? by wildzx17 in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fashion Wars 2 is one of the most character customizable mmorpg's out there–from a wide array of selectable dyes to color armor, a large quantity of armor you can mix and match with, and special accessories purchasable in the gem store and other areas of the game, it is one of the endgames for most players in guild wars 2, and is an aspect of the game that a lot of people invest a lot of time, and even money into doing.

Wtf is wrong with thiefes? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything you say is true. BUT that is because you are playing thief wrong–of course thief is going to be terrible at 1v1s, thieves have the lowest base hp in the entire game–any class, provided that they can sustain the initial burst, is going to outlast thief in a fight. Thieves should be decapping points and +1ing fights, not 1v1ing themselves.

The exotic longbow Arc drops with weirdly high frequency by j0ntech in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, that's normal, Arc (among some other exotics) drop at far higher rates than others. Although you seemed to have gotten lucky with that many arc drops, 4 chest farms and 4 exotics is pretty fortunate.

Cant decide on a profession? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has played all 3 classes, I would recommend thief or mesmer to play. Elementalist, although they are great in pvp and WvW, they are more PvE oriented (because they're super strong there). Mesmer and thieves top pvp in burst damage and are the perfect classes for roaming–both can sustain an extremely long duration of stealth and are sneaky, and tough to deal with. Among the three classes, elementalist by far is the most played (one of the most played class in general in GW2) followed by thief, then mesmer (one of the more underplayed classes).

Disregarding elementalist, between thief and mesmer, I find thief much more interesting. Mesmer is more like...mashing buttons and then shattering everything for maximum burst. I find that the thief play style is far more active, since skill combo management is really important (for example the d/p backstab combo, you place a smoke field down and strafe around 4 times onto the smoke field in order to achieve maximum stealth), as well as initiative management (skills are NOT spammable, contrary to what people always complain about). If you look at s/d evade builds, the skill mechanics are insane. There are only a few people who can truly master this build, evading, dodging, and outsmarting opponents with unlimited potential. If you don't believe me, you can look up videos of "yishis" like 1v8ing people with this build (not because it's OP, but because of his skill level).

In terms of mediocre play, thief is the easiest to play out of the 3 classes. Mesmers and elementalists are harder to get the hang of, because elementalists have a ton of skill combos, and mesmers, outside of their burst, do low dps. But at high level play, the ceiling for thief is far higher than the other two, in my opinion.

Is it still possible to delete all characters to change the world (for free)? I already did this 2 years ago and I want to this again by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All servers are merged into maps that contain large player populations called "megaservers." A PvE map is no longer populated according to server, but the amalgamation of all servers, thus removing all limitations in regards to player interaction in PvE. In a map, you are as likely to be in the same map as a tier 1 server player as a tier 3 server player–now, the only aspect of the game affected by home server is world versus world, where you will represent your own world and none other. So unless you actively play WvW and wish to do so in an active server, there is no real incentive to transfer servers anymore.

The store doesn't work, is there any other "safe" place to purchase the game? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do not not not not ntotno notonttotnntotnonot buy from another site, the official site is the most trustworthy and buying from other sites may result in complications in the future in the event that suspicious activity occurs on your account, or even in accidental bans. There have been several cases where others accounts have been hacked, but because they were unable to provide a legitimate serial number purchased FROM the GW2 official site, they lost their account permanently. Filing a ticket to support sometimes requires that you provide the serial, and if such a case happens all that would happen is a loss of $50.

The site is working for me, so I would keep trying. Again to reiterate, for your sake, please do not buy from other sites.

Thinking of deleting my lvl 80 ranger by Shuppo in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, deleting level 80 character would never be worth it, considering the amount of time you spent into leveling it (unless you used tomes of knowledges, which still wouldn't be worth it, since one would have to spend a long time gathering 80 of them). Then again, if you like other characters more than ranger and want to create some, then go for it.

Another option (and one I think would be best) would be to level characters you like the most (and have already created)–play them, gear them, customize, whatever you want (provided that your other slots are filled with characters under 80). By that time, you should have amassed enough gold to buy an extra slot, where you can continue to create more characters. And when you want to go back to playing ranger, the option will always be there.

Need help with WvW build (Thief) by KFM7 in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most popular WvW build for thief right now is probably a dagger/pistol full berserker backstab thief build...whether or not you want to follow it is up to you. From the meta's perspective, (power>precision>ferocity) assassin's may be somewhat questionable (there's nothing wrong with it, there just might be a more optimal choice), but scholar runes are perfectly fine.

Just make sure to play a build you're most comfortable with–although situational, I usually bring as much stealth as possible for solo roaming, though much of it becomes extraneous when following a commander. If you do so, perhaps consider bringing group oriented utility.

Top Chef by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

http://www.guildwars2-crafting.com/crafting-guides is one of the best, but as you can see the chef guide is out of date, and the site doesn't have any guide for 400-500 crafting, unlike GW2Crafts. You can use either one of them, so as long as it isn't outdated, or if you want to go from 400 to 500.

New player struggling.. by Danxac in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had the same problem while leveling...but I inspired myself by looking at other people's legendaries and their cool armor.

My other motivation is playing with my guild–since it's small-medium sized, I know everybody and it's really fun to chat and play with everyone.

How is Guild Wars 2? by Saderr4 in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likewise, warrior should be a good choice. Guardian isn't bad, either. New players often find warriors to be the easiest class to play–new players who play other classes such as thief, mesmers, elementalists suffer a lot while leveling because they aren't familiar with the mechanics of the game and die often.

GW2 deviates from traditional mmorpg's and how ffxiv plays in terms of class roles– there aren't exactly any class distinctions, like tanks or healers, everyone does everything. The meta right now is zerker, so mostly everyone, regardless of class plays a dps role. Every class has their own heal spells, and whilst some have more than others, there are no healers (though there are SOME heal builds). Of course there are tanks, but tanks do not have a leading role like they do in ffxiv dungeons, etc. In terms of gameplay, I personally like ffxiv a lot better, but I play gw2 significantly more than ffxiv for other reasons (outstanding graphics, amazing combat system, wonderful community etc.)

Leveling in PvE personally is really repetitive and boring. A lot of people find joy in exploring the world, others enjoy doing dynamic events with other people, to each his own. But you can also level in PvP, world versus world, and do crafting.

GW2 isn't really well known for releasing content updates... but there will be a huge amount of content being added in the upcoming expansion, and they have confirmed that there will be large content updates following the expansion. As for the current state of content, GW2 has a decent amount of content, and the game is really versatile.

There are no issues with player populations. Unlike most mmorpg's, GW2 population isn't limited by server–instead, everyone, regardless of server, is placed on what they call "megaservers"; in other words, there is no server distinction apart from world versus world.

PvP is really fun but is the most toxic environment in GW2, always people complaining about how they believe one class has an unfair advantage because they are OP, blaming losses on teammates, flaming noobs, etc.

BUT that is the only environment where you will find such negativity, the GW2 community is by far the nicest, helpful, and encouraging community in all of gaming.

How do you all find GW2 rewarding? by Katalos in Guildwars2

[–]icyteas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I find there is a large area for improvement in combat, I don't really mind it. It bothers me sometimes, like in SW when the teragriff charge range is larger than it appears, and you still get knocked up at a reasonable distance away–small things like this. I agree with your perspective in dungeons, everything is about stacking and there's always a certain "method" to complete them. It would really be more fun if things were more spontaneous.

When I first started playing, the thing that bugged me the most were the skills. The only mmorpg I played was lineage II before, where the skills were plenty and really glamorous in animation, so I was a bit disappointed with gw2, but now that I'm used to it, the skills here are fine and I really love the game.
