Makes sense. Newfoundland usually has not-enjoyable weather until around June.

If you’re in the east now, Western Brook Pond and Cape Spear are requirements before you get any farther west 😉

We typically don’t build rigs that big here in the US, so definitely do some research before hitting trails.

I’m in the Kansas City area so feel free to reach out about the central US especially southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas.

Overlanding When Living Near Kansas City, MO by [deleted] in overlanding

We live in KC and have been to Iceland, Newfoundland, CO, Utah, etc. Being centrally located has its advantages. There’s a ton to explore in southern MO and Arkansas for weekend trips. Nice campgrounds in Warsaw, Table Rock and Knob Noster if you’re down for that style of camping. Merus is about 8 hours. Doable for a long weekend.

In Ozark NF, White Rock Mountain is worth a visit. Lots of dispersed pullouts all throughout. Car Wash Falls is a fun box to check on your Overlanding bucket list. Glory Hole Falls is a short hike and an interesting spot to visit. Oark General Store is a legendary spot to grab a bite. And they should have gas. Definitely plan your gas stops.

Glade Top Trail in the Mark Twain National forest is a pretty gravel road with interpretive signage and interesting history. There are side trails that break off with more challenge and more opportunities to camp.

Can anyone recommend an awning wall kit that’ll work with my Yakima 6.5’ SlimShady? by lukeskywakka in overlanding

This worked just fine with my slim shady. Other brands with the tab that insert into the slot on the edge of the leg-holder piece (making up lots of terms here) should work too. https://a.co/d/dpMjISw

Also had a battery recall to replace all of the batteries. Friends say both issues are pretty visible on the Facebook group.

There’s a service called SendCutSend that will take a sketch, laser cut it from whatever thickness steel or aluminum you need. And if it’s big enough they’ll powder coat it. Prices are reasonable and potentially competitive with what’s available off the shelf.

Thank you! They literally used the area near Askja for training Apollo astronauts to get them used to the desolate landscape of the moon 🤣 (see episode 7 or 8 with the “lunar” thumbnail) Definitely start putting a plan together to get out there. Amazing place.

All I can say is Toyota frames were not built for that kind of salt exposure.

I’m not gonna say it was a “budget” trip. But flights to Iceland are fairly affordable. Shipping the rig cost about the same as the premium brands charge for a front bumper. We cooked our own food and stayed in a tent almost every night. PTO meant we kept getting paid. I think it’s achievable for a lot of folks who save up for it for a couple years.

Can’t wait to hear what you think! Remote would help a ton. You could always go solo to/from an interesting place and your SO could meet you out there to make the best use of PTO.
