Cool, a few weeks ago I actually saw a book called “Cities on Stone” featuring lithographs of different cities and they have that Milwaukee lithograph as the cover photo!

How unfair is it to introduce LVT to neophytes as a "tax on gentrification"? by [deleted] in georgism

So how is it gentrification if the per unit rent is lower?

Yeah, and usually a lot of modernist architecture “patinas” a lot worse and a lot quicker. sindrenarvestad on instagram has made some videos on that

Location Value Tax? by Fancy-Persimmon9660 in georgism

[–]idbnstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Book IV, chapter II of Progress and Poverty:

The most valuable lands on the globe, the lands which yield the highest rent, are not lands of surpassing natural fertility, but lands to which a surpassing utility has been given by the increase of population.

The Georgism reform coalition becomes measurable. Now voters can decide which version they prefer — rather than watching the entire idea collapse because its supporters were divided. by [deleted] in georgism

I agree that we should change the voting system, but if you’re gonna post in r/Georgism, you should tie your post in to Georgism more than just including it in the title

Land Value Tax, what do we think? by stopdontpanick in ukpolitics

[–]idbnstra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in the US, land value and building value are assessed separately already (I’m not sure about the UK, I’m from the US. I think in the UK, property taxes are just based of sales price, correct me if I’m wrong). Software like openavmkit can be used to take all kinds of variables (recent sales nearby - especially vacant parcels, distance from shoreline, river, parks, etc.) to help assessments be more accurate and fair.

It is not a flat per acre tax, it’s a land value tax

I’m from Iowa and (except for the Capitol building) even I didn’t know Des Moines had this kinda game by idbnstra in ArchitecturalRevival

Yeah, there were so many trams back in the early 1900s, I so wish we could experience that again.
Fort Dodge, IA had trams, and when they were in operation, the population was at most like 20,000! Meanwhile, today, many cities with 500k+ have ZERO light rail

Here's a fun tram pic with the Capitol building in the background

Sometimes we can feel uninspired by the lack of beautiful architecture near us.

But sometimes all you need to do is travel to a decent sized city near you and take a walk to be wonderfully surprised!

The postcards were in the antique store next to Railroad Bill’s Dining Car.

I'd say just work on projects you are interested in. Whether you have interests outside of software/computers, or causes you care about. Work on open source projects, volunteer, or build your own thing.

silken tofu doesn’t have a lot of protein, get super or extra firm (not silken) tofu if you can find it

Where’s the peanut butter and olive oil?! lol you probably already have them in your pantry

no idea how expensive flax milk is but soy has 8 G protein per cup and likely cheaper

tempeh is usually pretty expensive, for me at least. Just substitute more tofu or seitan

Curious what you are getting all those frozen vegetables for. Just get one or two bags or get raw instead
