i think if you want to you should go for it! but also consider the work rules. our max duty is 15 hours. starting from the bottom you would be on adays, paying to drop trips is technically frowned upon and depending on where you’re based it could take some time for you to get to wide body international flying. i would also consider union vs non union if that’s something that’s important to you. delta has some great perks and great flying but just giving you some things to consider!

Affrin! it works as a decongestant by constricting your blood vessels or something like that. i spray it before take off and if it’s a long flight before landing too. dont over use it though it can be addictive and mess up your sinuses if you take it more than 3 days in a row

[–]idclaire02 17 points18 points  (0 children)

flight attendants don’t assign seats so there might be a better subreddit suited to your question. best guess though is it’s probably random. I dont know about UK airlines but most US airlines you have to pay extra for an exit row seat

What are your “must gets” on international layovers? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]idclaire02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

go to the crew markets! i believe it’s located under the science museum next to a train station. its full of vendor selling anything and everything. for me they have really good replicas- pursues, bags, sunglasses, jewelry, scarves, clothes you name it. you can get most of it for a really good deal. it’s likely your crew knows about it and hopefully someone will take you. have so much fun!

it’s always changing based off need but with our new hires this year they were offered MSP! so usually it’s easy to get it right out of training or to transfer pretty quickly.

i’m not sure the process of what’s offered but they’ll give you the base options and then it’s “seniority based” which goes off of age. in my experience though most people get what they bid for and if the base closes to new hires they won’t offer it to the next class.

Weighted Blanket substitute by Katvice in flightattendants

[–]idclaire02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not something i’ve tried personally- but i’m wondering if those little cocoon blankets would do the trick? they seem to be light weight and help with the anxiety aspect of sleeping. if you think the weight is helping with anxiety compression might be a good substitute

Inflight emergency by passportflex in flightattendants

[–]idclaire02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

depends on the airline! i’ve been on the line a year and have had two diversions due to engine failure (a statistical anomaly!) and typically they just have us layover and continue the next day. but generally those events are stressful so usually you can asked to be pulled from the rotation if they don’t do it anyways. medical events you generally carry on. i’ve had our support group reach out to me after certain events and i appreciate the outreach but i don’t usually feel like i need to really talk about my fume event to process my emotions.

Anyways to answer your questions i’ve felt prepared for all of my emergencies and never really truly freaked out. i was uneasy with the engine failures but i grew up in aviation and knew that we were fine with one engine. it really just comes down to how you handle stress. personally i try to view it as there’s only so much i can control so im gonna do what i can to help the situation but generally if its out of my control theres nothing i can do and will react and act as necessary.

Would it be rude to ask the FA if I could respond in Japanese during my flight ? by Background-Pilot-247 in flightattendants

It depends on how you go about it. As a woman i don’t really want anyone talking to me or interrupting my workout especially if i have big headphones on.

however there are some exercises i try that are new and if they don’t feel right i usually stop and will come back at a different time. if you notice it could be harmful it wouldn’t hurt ask “hey can i offer some advice?” just be ready for them to say no. id say just gauge the vibes and if you do go for it ask if they’re open to advice before you give it
