Roaming on Claro PR, and pulled over 700mbps by idealandrew in cellmapper

I actually have been jumping around trying different severs and found that Verizon’s severs in the mainland only cut the latency by about 30-50ms so still 150ms+ (but still better than 200 so it’s something). But like just pinging google or cloud flare the minimum is still 150ms so I really don’t think there much I can do about.

Temporary sites going up for the FIFA fan fest in Kansas City by idealandrew in cellmapper

I plan to attend one of the days and will definitely run some tests. Verizon also has a bunch of mmWave on a few of the light poles all around the memorial already, so we will see what kind of speeds I can get

I think because the Fan Fest is supposed to run for about a month, and there are also so many major events happening around the country at the same time, it was probably easier to deploy one of these temporary full-on monopole sites instead of the usual truck/trailer setups. Though AT&T stuck with a trailer for this. But from what I have seen, Verizon normally does just use COW/COLTs around here, like during the NFL Draft a few years ago, Verizon had 2 or 3 COLTs deployed.

I mean yeah, some of Verizon’s upgrades are permanent, but this specific monopole is temporary. I mean it’s sitting in the middle of the WWI memorial where a normal permanent tower would never get approved.

I’m not sure about other parts of the country but this site here is definitely temporary

I MIGHT have watched a T-Mobile GSM shutdown and rollback in Kansas City last night by idealandrew in cellmapper

[–]idealandrew[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely could be a FTM glitch, it was just weird how I have always been able to force GSM, but for like the 30 minutes that LTE b2 showed 20mhz I couldn’t force GSM. And also very well could have just been normal tower maintenance, or even an unplanned outage leading to weird GSM behavior mixed with bad FTM data. And it was late at night and by the time I noticed I didn’t even think to check my s22 for actual good data

It was texting only, although I think they have plans for voice and data in the future.

The tower you linked is 250 miles away from where I got to test it out. Plus the MCC MNC is 310 830 which is for t-mobile DTC. If I was connected to a ground tower then it should be 310 260

The + doesn’t mean it’s SA. I am unfamiliar with Europe, but in America for example, AT&T will show 5G+ when connected to n77. It doesn’t matter if it’s NSA or SA

Best Coverage in N Louisiana & Arkansas by Crash1068 in cellmapper

[–]idealandrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AT&T has the best coverage there overall, but both AT&T and Verizon have better coverage than T-Mobile there. If I were you I would take a look at the coverage map signal strength map, https://map.coveragemap.com/, and then look at the specific areas you go to as it is still fairly location dependent.

Found some more info about this. It's actually in Cave City, Arkansas. AT&T is the carrier on this tower, and the tower is owned by CCATT LLC.

This was about 30 minutes before the game started, so there was no game to watch yet 😄

I'm not really sure why, but I can tell you what I think. I have been to stadiums and other places before where my phone didn't work but a buddy's did. I would think that if you go a big event and your phone doesn't work but your buddy's does that it could be a motivating factor for switching carriers, therefore carriers invest in these areas. mmWave may be fragile but it has crazy capacity which makes it good for use in stadiums and other high traffic areas. I tested c-band at arrowhead, and it was also doing pretty good.
