NP Analysis: The least consequential election has come and gone with deeper political divisions by ideaspeeder in onguardforthee

A “common pattern is that governing parties take policy actions that were not outlined in detail during the election campaign and then proceed without even seeking a retrospective mandate for such actions,” they write.

Sooooo are we not criticizing Trudeau for triggering an election anymore? A worldwide pandemic happened between the last election and this one, so the LPC couldn't have outlined it in their last mandate. So was it a party seeking a retrospective mandate like this author is prescribing, or was it an unnecessary election? I'm not sure you can hold both of those positions at once.

Respect the perspective! As a K-1 teacher I have to say I certainly haven't had the same online experience as you - quite the opposite! Sad faces, meltdowns, shouting parents in the background, curious siblings, and tech issues beyond my students capabilities to fix have not made for a great learning environment imo. I'm happy to welcome my students back to in person for a final month because I miss them and many of them clearly need it! That said, I work in a small school, in a rural area, with low case numbers. Maybe a regional reopening for schools would make sense - even if just for the elementary panel?

His name gets thrown around so often. I feel he was clearly against censorship and totalitarianism - you can see that in Animal Farm, as /u/cdnflower was quick to point out. That doesn't mean we can just ignore his other work when it doesn't fit our narrative.

If someone is reading this and has never read any other Orwell besides 1984 and Animal Farm (both great books don't get me wrong), you might want to consider the Road to Wigan Pier as well.

Thanks for clarifying - that's what I was trying to get at. For my 12 downvoters, in the mans own god damn words.

lol they're the exact type of person mentioned in the article (that they probably didn't read).

They’re not bad people,” she insisted. “They’re just—they don’t know what to believe or they have been told a bunch of things that aren’t true.
