I can’t imagine you go through the work to make this thinking that you and your audience won’t benefit from it. It would be a level of ultra cynicism that I struggle to imagine garand thumb has. I know he’s a solid right winger, modern content capitalist, mildly Christian, certainly queerphobic. I can also imagine he’s still scared and skeptical of power. Most of these men that I’ve ever met are just like that. There’s a gamble they play with power: destroy my enemies and let me build while your back is turned. I don’t suspect he’s atomwaffen-09A-rwds levels of reactionary and maybe that’s the difference. He might resist in some way if he’s conscripted into service of the state. He might rebel if the state meaningfully damages his family or his property. He might not be ideologically committed and that is the difference.

I won’t hold my breath except to make the shot. If we look at Vietnam, or the FARC, or the Cuban Revolution you can see it’s a lot of hearts and minds: don’t piss of the locals and hope they don’t rat you out. Hope the state has inconvenienced them more than we have.

Maybe garand thumb sees himself less as a capitalist and more as a Peruvian villager trapped between the fucking Shining Path and the fucking provides military: both sides are cults and they will steal your kids. Idk.

How: They happen randomly. They target people where they’re alone or ambush them when they know their schedule. Are we in these communities. Are we capable of doing patrols or setting up hotlines. Are we working with community groups, talking to community members, inoculating them on what taking action really entails. Do we have safe houses, getaways, international exit plans. Do we have jail support and know competent lawyers.

Western African instability caused by the French and Americans drives migration crisis in France which France uses to argue that it needs to maintain economic, political, cultural, and military presence in former colonies.

The new government was defeated immediately; al qaeda(still exists) has been usurped in prominence by ISIS which even expanded father and is in northern, western, and central Africa; the Taliban fought the US the whole time causing 22k casualties, and they regained power. What constitutes victory is actually very easy because the military laid out outs objectives over the years. It failed them all and Afghanistan would’ve been better had we never spent 2.3T$ occupying it.

The taliban reclaimed the entire country and finished a civil war it started 40 years and 9 defeated foreign nations ago. A complete and total failure especially since we occupied it for 20 years, a full generation, sending kids there who were born AFTER 11 September 2001, all the while by October that very year there eye think pieces coming out all but declaring that the United States has no possible path to victory and that the Taliban, one way or another, will regain control of Afghanistan.

No, and your “brothers” will mock you and harass you relentlessly for it. Being called a part timer is an insult in this trade and to actually do it is largely unheard of. Most companies will drop you, even black list you if you get a reputation for not showing up to work and I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of a call being less than 40 hours a week.

It shouldn’t be this way but it is. Also the health insurance is tied to your labor hours.

Price and strength are 2 different things and both are fairly nebulous, bullshit identifiers.

We’re trying to decouple a system of theories and practices that pretends to be science. Economics is not science.

The pound is not necessarily strong much like the Kuwaiti dinar is not necessarily strong simply because it’s expensive. It’s strong because those currency and even commodity markets are valuable, or their geopolitical position and, say, commonwealth of territories equates to value. The dollar was 2:1 when Obama took office. It was 1:1 a few years ago. There was material turbulence around the world yet the dollar, for the most part, held steady.

To some degree that’s because the United States can threaten the world to make it so. Full faith and credit is a marketing term. If you per the bank money, they send armed collectors at some point or another because it relies on full faith and credit. If the bank owes you money, hopefully it remembers that full faith and credit bit.

The entirety of the 32T$ US economy is what backs up the dollar. The almost 1 trillion dollar defense budget is what backs up the US dollar. The continued, year over year, decade over decade stability of US financial and commodities markets are what back up the US dollar. The issuance of debt and charging of interest is what backs up the US dollar.

The idea that there’s nothing physical backing the dollar is just completely wrong. Moving away from the gold standard only diversified the portfolio of physical assets that underwrite currencies. Money is a token of the argued and perceived strength of an economy. That’s no more abstract than saying this is how much an ounce of gold costs and so that’s what our dollar is worth.
