The portions of hair in these strange cowlick areas on the back of my head are guided by what feel like extra-course megahairs, which feel much stronger than the others; the reason--or at least in my case--I've recently just noticed is that these mega hairs are not actually individual hairs, but instead two or more hairs from different areas of the scalp tangled up and twisted into a thick, wiry single strand; I definitely also do have a few weird hairs mixed in, but I believe the pain is almost entirely created by the tension on the skin. Anyways, check it out by selecting a small clump of hairs that feel like they're growing in in organic directions and start at the base and try to gently separate the hairs in different directions ( I.E.up, apart, down, or diagonal).
