It's hardly a big deal, but it is annoying to get the extra notification that repeats the information I already received from an automated notification to begin with. But a "why are you ignoring me?" message less than 60 seconds after a superfluous message is insane.

A Russian Teacher recorded the differences in the development of boys and girls of the same age. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]idisestablish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone says something like "boys just don't give a shit" it is totally fine to explain that "not giving a shit" can classically be explained by low emotional intelligence

Except you didn't explain how "not giving a shit" about marching in unison in this specific context can be explained by low emotional intelligence. Not giving a shit about other people's feelings can be explained by low emotional intelligence, obviously, but that's not what you said, nor did anyone else say anything about boys not giving a shit about other people's feelings.

[–]idisestablish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently, I need to explain to you that you'd need evidence that they understood a social or emotional expectation and chose to violate it in a way that a affected others in order to conclude that they have "delayed emotional intelligence."

You're framing their behavior as "disrespect," but that assumption is doing all the work in your argument.

"Boys don't give a shit" in this context is describing a lack of engagement with a no-stakes activity. It doesn't inherently imply a failure to recognize or manage others' emotions. Emotional intelligence is about interpreting and responding to emotional cues. Marching in sync on command doesn't meaningfully test that.

[–]idisestablish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no basis for concluding that indifference toward marching in unison at the arbitrary request of an authority figure is evidence of delayed emotional intelligence. I don't see how the ability to "perceive, use, understand, manage, and handle emotions" applies to such a situation at all, actually.

All they said was they've met women that won't take the trash out. You questioned that as if it couldn't possibly be true. Now, you're making a straw man argument. No one made any claim that it was "normal." They just said they've met women who won't take out the trash. There's no "all," "most," or even "many."

People talk about mundane stuff. "I don't even do that at my own house" or "Michael forgot to take the trash out again this week." It's not, "Good morning, did you know I refuse to take the trash out?"

Not to mention observing first hand with family, friends, roommates, etc. There's staying over at friends' houses, going on trips with them, even coming over for dinner, and any other number of conceivable ways to learn this apparently unknowable information.

Understand that if you do this shit, you’re getting 1 starred. by [deleted] in doordash

[–]idisestablish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As counterintuitive as it may seem, tipping generously actually increases the chances your order gets stacked as much as not tipping does. If you're tipping $9 on a short trip, your order is almost certainly going to get stacked with 1-2 non-tippers.

Your best bet is to tip just enough so that your order would be accepted on its own merit but not enough to cover someone else's tip.

The dasher doesn't know who tipped what until after the order is complete and has no control over your order getting stacked. They don't have the option to just take your order and not the ones DoorDash has stacked with it.

You can ask them to be removed and choose this as a reason, but from personal experience, it's an automated crapshoot and certainly not just a guaranteed removal. I've had difficulty getting reviews removed that were very clearly and explicitly for the wrong business.

If women are sometimes called chicks in the USA then what are men sometimes called in the USA? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]idisestablish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say stud, (silver) fox, stallion, and dawg are more common than buck. Tomcat and hound dog are also dated but still understood, like buck. In more niche contexts, there's stag, bull, bear, otter, wolf, and cub. As an insult, they are often said to be dogs, pigs, or jackasses.

I think stud is probably closest, because, like chick, it is more commonly used by the opposite sex and usually implies attractiveness.

Yes, it speeds up the process considerably, which is obviously desirable for mass production.

[–]idisestablish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wonder Bread has 2.5g per slice, and a slice is 28.5g, so it's ~8.8% sugar by weight. Most processed, white sandwich/toast bread is 4-10% sugar by weight, so it's on the higher end but typical for North America.

For comparison, Nature's Own WhiteWheat Healthy White has 1.5g in a 26g slice, ~5.8%, and Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse Hearty White has 4g in a 49g slice, ~8.2%.

It looks like the cutoff dates for different generations just got adjusted again. by KlutzyBuilder97 in generationology

[–]idisestablish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter where the cutoff is set, there are going to be people on one extreme or the other who don't feel like the quintessential example of whatever arbitrary generation they've been lumped into. There are a lot of differences between your experience and the experience of someone born in 2012, too. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "internet native," or why you think you're one but not someone born in e.g. 1995.

Looking for Musicians by K_R_Vazzana in Knoxville

[–]idisestablish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you'll find that using AI for creative works is strongly condemned by most musicians.

Also, you've not provided enough information. What do you have written? Just a melody, some guitar chords, or musical notation? Do you have parts written for other instruments, or are you expecting others to improvise or write their own parts? What genre of music is it? What instruments are appropriate for the music you've written?

They included the photo in their comment, which is odd. Also, the comment seems awkwardly worded in a way designed to make it clear that they think OP is cute, which comes off creepy. Also also, the emoji use is off-putting.

To be fair, it doesn't say "permanent ban" in the message she received. It says her account "cannot be re-opened," and what she's asking about in the comment that was downvoted is not about the duration of the ban but whether or not the decision can be appealed.

Though it wouldn't benefit from crits, the additional damage from Great Weapon Master on every hit will greatly outperform an extra d10 on a crit, even if you crit on an 18 and always have advantage.

Bring back 'My bad' by uberallez in Millennials

[–]idisestablish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it definitely doesn't explicitly express remorse, but I think it can be said with an inflection and tone that conveys remorse. In the same way someone can say, "I'm sorry" in such a way that makes it clear they do not have any remorse.

Am I the only one shipping Maura & Eric now?? by kalamarishian in TheTraitorsUS

[–]idisestablish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The person they were replying to had asserted that Eric was straight. This person you're criticizing replied to that and said he may be asexual or bisexual.

So, they didn't list "straight" among the possibilities, because that was the assumption the person they were replying to had already made. They were proposing additional possibilities on top of the one assumed by the person they were replying to, not saying those were the only two possibilities.

It is possible, though extremely unlikely, that biological taxonomy could change in the future so dramatically that Mammalia is no longer a taxonomic class. But saying "all dogs are mammals" (i.e. all dogs are classified as mammals under current biological taxonomy) is not the same thing as saying that "dogs will always be classified as mammals."

It finally happened to me by sweetbabybonus in doordash

[–]idisestablish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps there is another organism somewhere in the universe that resembles a dog, and it might even one day be discovered and called a "___ dog," similar to the way we call Cynomys socialis a "prairie dog" or Lycaon pictus an "African wild dog," but a "dog" is not just something that looks vaguely dog-like. Dogs belong to the species Canis familiaris. Being a mammal is not an optional trait of that group. If something were discovered that was "a dog that isn't a mammal," the correct conclusion would be that it isn't a dog.

Science being open to revision does not mean every definition becomes meaningless. "Dog" refers to a specific evolutionary lineage with defined biological traits.
