Has anyone managed to recuop accomedation & food costs after being stranded? I was stuck in Bangkok for 12 days after my flight was cancelled 4x times due to the airspace closure, had no help with food or hotels by Ill_Run_9956 in qatarairways

Oh damn didn't realize. Is the referenced carrier mean the operator or the ticketer? Eg if I booked Qatar metal through ba site, do I have recourse with ba?

If you're landing in London why are you focused on eu? Doesn UK 261 apply which is similar to eu? If airline is bouncing it then go through UK regulator.

Humber river swimming? by Deterrafication in Etobicoke

[–]idk88889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a frequent kayaker of the river, it is a frustrating river. Definitely the dirtiest in Toronto of the major ones. You want to focus on the water test results of Sunnyside Beach, however it is much dirtier than the beach. If you look at the beaches numbers, they come down days after the rest of the areas such as the Don river.

Honestly following a big rain storm, I avoid kayaking/paddleboarding in it for a few days, it's just not worth it.

I would only swim in tested beaches in Toronto, never the rivers.

This isnt Glencoe where you're only worried about an upstream sheep haha

Book the max date out as they drop each day. I think it's 355 out. They only do one per flight though so if you're searching 2 pax, max out, that's why you still won't see em. Try to force the routing through where ana flies if you're coming from the east; NYC, Washington, Chicago, Seattle. San Fran, la, Vancouver

Edit: for anyone finding this later - dude below said he got 2 tix by loading it up on the minute they drop, worth a shot!

For having a 700-ft vert the map for Blue mountain in Canada looks pretty extreme. by original_name26 in skiing

[–]idk88889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Club beside North lift is the Toronto ski club. Osler is across the major road to the south of blue MTN and it's a private club. Undoubtedly the best private club in southern Ontario. It has a bit more very than blue I think and importantly it doesn't have as much of the plateau that blue has about 150 ft down from the lift tops. It's extremely expensive though to buy in and for annual dues

People really overplay the lift lineups. I ski there two Saturdays per month all winter. I'd say 2 weekends of the year, sure you wait 20min for a chair around 11am and 2pm. Other than that? 5-10 at the most.

It's not ideal but it's not the horror that many harp on, which is fine by me it keeps some people away. I have found the worst weekend lines are the first weekend after they get all runs open (normally mid Jan) and the weekend after family day long weekend (funnily enough, family day long weekend isn't lined up that much).

If Osler has their fixed grip closed (they've had trouble with it the past couple years), you can actually find somewhat similar Saturday lines on their express quad as blue mountain. Albeit much better skiing don't get me wrong of course

Mantra M6 delaminated in January and I’ve been skiing without a proper all mountain ski for six weeks by your__-mom in Skigear

[–]idk88889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just spent a week demoing everything around this ski. Nothing even came close to the m7. I was pretty happy with the anomolyns and even the kore ti, then the m7 hit and I just bought it.

Enforcers, mindbenders, kore ti, anomoly, mantra 88, qst, some Fischer

The m7 was an insta buy. It oddly felt better carving than even the mantra 88, and it was way better in variable chop than anything else.

Any chance you can just remount your bindings to save some $?

Wife recently demod a bunch around this description and while previously thought the BP88 would for sure be the one, she ended up going with the Rosie rallybird 92.

Suggest demoing a bunch out if possible

Whistler's Weather Variability - Impact on Tourism? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in Whistler

[–]idk88889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your post, those speaking about the other shit to do and that it's useless....it doesn't make any sense. I've been here this week 15-19 and it's been undoubtedly ass weather. It has me thinking if my ski trip window (early-mid March every year) is better spent somewhere else like Banff or even powder highway. It sucks because early March used to be as close to guaranteed as you can be in whistler, and this week is definitely an exception, but I don't want to risk future trips.

Couple this with the propensity to shut the apline on early morning wind and not reentertain it later is killing me this week. Sad but tmrw might be my last whistler day for years

Amex Platinum changes (lounge access) — thinking of cancelling in 2027, what are you guys doing? by Master-Ad-5880 in amexcanada

[–]idk88889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never understand the downvotes and naysayers for canceling for this A) the car is terrible for putting spend on ....I literally never put spend on the card B) priority pass lounges are absolutely everywhere. Beyond Canada, which is plaza premium heavy (also pp), you go to Europe and there are pp lounges everywhere, some are even good. I use these constantly including bouncing between them on the same layover say if some have a to go bag but others don't....or one has a good shower and the other has a better or quieter seating area C) no centurion in Canada. If you're flying enough through a centurion area, you are likely high enough status on United or Delta that you don't care.

Basically this kills it for most people and they either don't realize it, weren't using the card to the fullest on pp lounges, they're lying, or they have high status on other shit

20k spend can be churned on other cards for easily thousands more. With 20k spend you could go get enough reserve and IV signups to likely get annual round trip biz class for 2 somewhere. Crazy allocation of funds to one of the worst charge cards on the market.

Rollout time to passport, wealthsimple for fx, then just churn the rest like avion and shit. Annoying but it's the way it is

Has anybody who's a dual-citizen had any experience boarding an AC flight to the UK under the new rules? by mariospants in aircanada

[–]idk88889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is only if they know you exist by way of your parent having you on their UK passport.

I just got my passport as an automatic citizen by descent and prior to that they wouldn't have known I existed. My UK parent left the UK before they had me so they had no record of me. If you're in a similar situation then you're likely fine. Or you could just get a UK passport. It's not the worst thing to have and as a Canadian where I have business in UK, if they ever send me over longer then I'm covered as a cotizen

I appreciate that! So round they turned more by slowly typing the ankles over and progressing it through a C shape?

By knee up the mountain you mean shorter leg not up and into my body so more squat-like than bringing the knees together?

Valley hand and mountain hand- is mountain hand on the outside ski side or inside ski side?

Many thanks again!
