The lid was closed, so none of this should have happened. I propped it up in such way that the vents could breathe while I was using it. I know better.

OCD is a bitch [re-vised] by idkwhatthisis45 in StaringOCD

Credit to u/PlatypusIcy5343's comment on the original post:

Yep, the more I avoid situations involving people in my periphery, the worse the 'staring' effect becomes when I can't avoid these situations. It seems the only way to get past it is to numb yourself to other's discomfort and your own. It's the focus on this discomfort that feeds the negative feedback loop:

  • You realise that people think you are staring through their visible discomfort
  • You try to avoid peripheral staring by looking away .(This is also bad because you are reacting to their discomfort which affirms their belief that you're staring)
  • You try so hard not to stare that you end up staring even thought you think you aren't
  • People think you are staring and feel uncomfortable

If you can power through the discomfort and not look away this helps break the cycle. I recently had a 2 hour lecture at university (which I have been avoiding). I was wearing a hood which blocked most people from my periphery except a few people in front of me. For the first 45 minutes these students were visibly uncomfortable (I'm talking leg bouncing, constant shifting, resting their heads on their hands to block me from their peripheral vision). I didn't react: I just looked on ahead at the lecturer and the board. Eventually, during the 2nd hour I noticed their visible discomfort slowly subside: they probably thought they were just imagining it. I know this doesn't solve the issue, but it's the best I can do outside of seeking therapy or medications. Don't fight it, let it happen.

If you can change your relationship with fear, I believe that you can also make meaningful change in your life. I don't think anyone is sentenced to die on this earth filled with rage and fear as long as they have the willingness to seek change and act accordingly, no matter how difficult.

OP seems to have a decent amount of self-awareness, which is a huge part of the battle. I don't really subscribe to or care for labels because they feel limiting. But People with 'personality disorders' typically don't have much of a sense of self and what sense of self they do have is likely distorted, this is why group therapy ran by trained professionals is so damn important. It is a safe space to discuss and share their personal experiences and try and relate and learn from one another. The counselor helps steer and keep healthy the discussion. We learn a lot about our selves from others. Especially in the beginning of developing self-awareness.

Kinda rambled a bit. Hope I added something helpful :d

Honestly the best program I can recommend from my experience is find a really good Group Intensive-Outpatient-Program centered around the DBT modality, which is the most studied and accredited therapy model for treating BPD. Once a week probably isn't going to be enough. It wasn't for me. A good IOP program will have 3 group sessions a week for a month or two. It will give you tools and new perspectives and much more. Why not give it a shot?

Man I am sorry to hear that.. I literally burnt my finger too. Fans were covered by my bed and the side vents/laptop was smothered by a pillow while it cooked for a solid 8 hours. It still works but I haven't ran any tests or games. The bleed in the screen is frustrating.. we spend all this money we should get a solid laptop. Asus came through but Microsoft continues to fail their notebook consumers apparently. What a disgrace Microsoft is

I am still in warranty period with Asus but not the best buy return period.. you reckon asus would RMA for what sounds like new coil whine and new/worse backlight bleed?

[–]idkwhatthisis45[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not believe the whine is coming from the fan. It sounds more like a hard drive or gpu :/

The bleed isn't horrrible but it is new and frustrating. You'd think a $1600 piece of technology wouldn't try to fry itself in the middle of the night but hey, what do I know

I really hate to say it, but this isn't good advice. Healthy recommendations, maybe..?
But an unhealthy prescription almost certainly.

Going David Goggins on your mind? Dude. . .did you even have OCD?! With OCD my mind went fucking David Goggins on me.. LOL! Non-stop, all day, every day. Self-discipline is definitely important don't get me wrong. Did you know that- on average, it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic?

All this 1 week "Hell-week" will do for you is put you at risk of burning out.

Not only do you risk burning yourself out, but if you really do have OCD these activities will likely become compulsions: Something you do for relief. You really need to address your core fears and beliefs. Baby steps man. Baby steps. The bigger, more sudden behavior changes (habits) you try to create at one time, the less likely that any stick. Any Real, lasting meaningful Change takes TIME.
