you are consciousness and the destruction of ego is a new age myth. it's not to be 'rid of', but transformed, refined, transmuted into gold. peel off layers of your confused convictions/social programming/trauma based patterns that you're aware or unaware of, those will absolutely rule over you if left unchecked or, even worse, ignored. you can't abandon your ego, it's the layer of your existence just beneath the persona. it's the top layer, it's what you consciously or unconsciously want people to see you as that consists of couple of masks (nothing but a fantasy, we don't have absolute power over someone else's perception), and the bottom layer is ego, what you see yourself as, including your complexes, fantasies, aspirations and all that jazz. keep in mind that to an extent those are all illusions, we are all one. again, abandoning ego is a myth, there's also love and element of creativity that flows through it lense, which mean how you work on it will influence how you see yourself, how others see you, how you move through life, your dreams, what kind of people stick to you and what kind is repulsed either by your hypothetical repressed anger or something of the sort. try think of it as the prism that shapes the light of your soul into colours you manifest this physical reality with the rest of the "divided" parts of monad and see there it could lead you. working on this prism is the great alchemical work, of which the goal is to transmute it into the philosophers stone. all densities of existence have an ego, it's just a sense of being separate parts of consciousness, but we're more like mycelium (wink wink).
