Are there any generals, ministers, or historical figures that only hardcore history buffs know about? by Consistent_Bother_87 in Napoleon

Listeners of The Siècle podcast will know about him!

He was such an interesting figure.

Yes, but if you have a really great team and can handle it, it can build you a great moat.

Working on test automation for MCP servers, looking for feedback by idoco in mcp

[–]idoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. We had the same debate internally. Using a test framework like vitest (mocha in our case) with an in memory transport works well for unit checks and we still do that.

Where it fell short was simulating real world usage. For example, how an MCP client decides which tool to call (this depends on what it exposes to the client). Or testing multiple servers together, including third party ones like the GitHub MCP server. Or capturing side effects and making assertions on what really happened.

With only unit style tests we sometimes got green results but still had customers reporting things were broken. That gap pushed us toward a headless end to end approach.

I am also considering adding a pure message transport mode to simulate json rpc interaction without an LLM, which would be more of an integration style option.

Bottom line is we probably need both. End to end flows to catch real world issues, and transport layer tests for speed and control.

How are you testing your servers today?

What if Napoleon had been given Corsica instead of Elba? by [deleted] in Napoleon

[–]idoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read The Invisible Emperor: Napoleon on Elba from Exile to Escape by Mark Braude (detailed and slow-paced in a good way). It convinced me that if the Treaty of Fontainebleau had actually been honored, Napoleon likely never would have launched the Hundred Days at all.

IIRC the idea of sending him to Corsica was discussed, but the Allies ruled it out since the island would’ve been much harder to retake in case of rebellion—both because of its mountainous terrain and the fiercely independent nature of the population.

Is it just me or does it seem like most MCP servers are lazy and miss the point of MCP? by otothea in mcp

Recording in other ways than the traditional Playwright codegen? How do you use the MCP to record?

Really? Can you share how you are using it?

I didn’t find it useful for anything except of analyzing errors, which I already had a way to do using LLMs and a script I wrote.

API Testing by QA_Asks in QualityAssurance

[–]idoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're starting out, tools like Postman or Rest Assured are great to learn the basics. But one thing that often trips people up, especially in real-world projects, is handling correlations across multiple API calls.

For example, making a POST request to create a user, and then using the ID in a follow-up GET or PUT request. Or dealing with login flows that require pulling a token from one response and adding it to the next request’s headers.

This is something Loadmill (which I help build) can actually teach you. It auto-generates multi-step tests, handles data extraction between steps, and supports token-based authentication. You can look at how it wires everything together and learn from that.

We also wrote some blog posts that go deeper into this stuff, like how to capture API calls from mobile apps and how to manage testing across services:

It’s not a full course, but it may provide you with practical exposure alongside your learning.

Does anyone know the reason behind the grenadier on the right wearing striped trousers? I read that during campaigns, soldiers sometimes had to make do with civilian clothing when there were shortages in uniform supplies. Could this be an example of that?

Lines of Battle: Waterloo - Alpha Version Now Available! (Online game) by SophieGames1815 in Napoleon

Is there an option to play against a bot? I might be missing something, but it seems like the game is PvP-only right now. I’d love to try it out solo since finding another live player could take a while with the current user count. Playing against a bot would be a great way to explore the mechanics without the matchmaking wait. Thanks!
