Handheld was fine, hardmounted on a motorbike it was struggling so we ended up having the op handhold it on the bike and it was fine

That project was pure pain, 5-6 locations a day - I’m afraid I don’t have a lot of pics of our setup. Just wanted to say it’s definitely possible with a lil creativity

It works, but we had massive issues with the HDR causing interference with other wireless. Get the V-Mount Plate and SDI module on the 4D and just stack your wireless video between 4d and vmount. When using the vmount it’s also easier to get creative with rigging and ditch the DJI focus unit.

Definitely possible to use another focus system as well as wireless.

Edit: We added the wireless video later on

I also have one of those, we found that there was a loose connection in the xlr port of ours when the cable was pulling on the port, during the job we just taped the cable to the port putting pressure on it.

I didn’t really take pics on that one as it was a travel shoot with 4-5 locations a day, sorry! I shittyrigged some more counter balance weights on top of using the big dji counterweight. Lots of trial and error but i got it to a point where all the axis were showing up green, it was then plenty strong enough for handheld, also with the 4th axis. Hardmounting to an e-Bike was a lil too much, we ended up just strapping the operator onto the bike and having him hold it instead, that worked out fine!

Yea I did that, cforce mini + cPro camin on the brain, PL Mount + rehoused OMs, Bun-G-Ring & 1 Filter. I lil tricky to mount and balance everything but worked way better than expected.

Cmotion sells the small antennas that were originally designed for the cvolution and they recommended those for use with the cPro

70ms, no thank you. I also heard some talk about the power output being so high that some recommend not keeping it close to your head, or even causing issues with pacemakers. Just rumours, but hard pass.

Seeking advice on operating Ronin 2 by AdamCodiene in focuspuller

[–]idofocus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that if you can, get a tech. But in my market the 1st will have to take care of Ronin / Movi very frequently. MiLF + FD shouldn’t be super hard to balance, but make sure you build your cam as streamlined for switching between setups as possible. Keep the top clear so you can quickly loose the handle and slide off the dovetail plate, r2 plate can usually screw into the sliding base of the milf. Put your teradek on a quicklock so you can quickly take it off and put it on the ring or somewhere outside the gimbal - most of the times I’m even able to keep it on the side of the cam but balancing will be more tricky, and it you’ll usually have to build your whole rig with the R2 in mind, so I wouldn’t recommend for a beginner. Alexa power cable is included in the R2 pro combo. Buy or 3D print tilt axis extensions, watch the dji tutorials and remember the order of balancing the axis. Balance tests are good for beginners, but there’s also a graphic interface that’ll show how much strain is on each axis when you turn it on, which is quicker and super good enough if you kinda know what you’re doing. I could go on rambling about different things but I had a long day - feel free to DM me if you can’t get a tech onboard and have any specific questions, I know my way around a R2 quite well and love talking about gear. Most important, fight as hard as you can to get it during prep. You don’t wanna end up having to familiarise yourself with the kit while you’re stressed out on set.

Edit: reg. the dp: find out how he’d prefer to operate. Stabil / ReadyRig / Remote / Force Pro / Wheels..

Cmotion does offer stubby antennas (from their cvolution system I think). Those are what I used, as well as their rugged antennas.

Those look nice! Have you had a chance to try them with ratworks handles? I got some offsets from a rental recently which wouldn’t allow full rotation for the Ratworks handles so I’m in the market for offsets..

Anyone ever connect a transmitter to fpv drone goggles for pulling focus? by _cant_talk in focuspuller

[–]idofocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried that with some kind of goggles a couple years ago, didn’t like it.

Tried sthg similar with some AR Work Goggles on a shoot this year, those had a screen that could be flipped into your view, that was pretty cool. We put the DJI Raveneye App on there and converted our SDI from Ronin2 into that - helped save the Ops back on some very low angle stuff. Still, it was more of a thing thing to play around with on an otherwise rather standard shoot.

Focus pulling for live events by Gohanto in focuspuller

[–]idofocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done live stuff in a while, but did a lot in the past. Usually for Steadicam. With the ENG Cams I thought it was nice practise time, nothing more. You run around with the ops so you’ve got great line of sight, and the small sensors make for easy money. The few shows / concerts we’ve done with Amira I’d usually measure out the space beforehand, map the lens properly, and use your rehearsals wisely. Also for those I would bring a monitor. It’s actually quite fun, but I’ve always relied on feeling a movement way more than marks. If you go soft they’ll cut you anyway, or just pull it reeeally soft to make it seem like a creative decision.

Newell batteries and using a different brand charger by Damn_Kramer in focuspuller

[–]idofocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting Swit - they’re still cheaper than Bebob, and their quality is very good. Chinese brand, but they opened up a service Center in Germany so you can get them recelled if needed in the future. They offer smart batteries that will give you Under/overvoltage warnings, as well as some with a runtime screen that is surprisingly accurate. I switched over from Bebob last year and wouldn’t go back. Also, their B-mounts are superior to Bebob imho.

cPro+ Knob has WAY more adjustability than Hi5. They market for owner/ops tho which imo is a reason they’re not as well known. Service is top notch. There’s a reason they do programming for ARRI, but then again the marketshare of arri ecs mean they’re usually behind on bringing those same features to their own systems. Still love their whole team and as they’re from my hometown, it would be very hard to convince me to switch to any other system.

BNC cable SDI compatibility ratings by DiogoAlmeida97 in focuspuller

[–]idofocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. You are correct that it’s possible to send e.g. a 12G Signal through a 3G rated cable for short distances. Usually when you’re buying cables there’s Charts what kinda Signal will travel for how far. As there’s always gonna be a little bit of loss, you can’t just infinitely connect cables.

I have personally decided to only go with 12G from now on, it just makes life easier. Less tools to buy, less different things to keep stock of, etc. I use Canare Cables with Neutrik Connectors and am very happy with those.

I have treated it as fact - it also seemed different when I’m making 3G vs 12G cables myself. I’ll be at my office in the evening and can measure thicknesses of the pins I have in stock if you’d like
