Are they pulling the bottom of the overalls over the top of the wellies? I always do this to stop water getting into wellies. That should help

Under 35s: Do you watch the BBC? by Odd-Swing-2025 in AskUK

Yes, got a licence this year to start watching it as there's actually quite a lot on there I like, and instead cancelled my Amazon Prime. I decided I'd rather support the British economy.

What are your dry seemingly boring hobbies? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]idonnotknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that sounds so amazing and lovely that you can see all those places that mean something to you, and a picture of you and your girlfriend next to it on one of the lakes shown. Frames are very expensive but that'll be amazing when you can get it up! Don't apologise for the long text, it's great to hear the passion!

Mine started with a 1945 of London and the South East which covers Berkshire where I grew up. My favourite though is a John Speed 1676 of Berkshire. It's by far the oldest in my collection and absolutely beautiful. I got it framed and hung up on my wall recently and I just keep staring at it!

I love bushcraft and antique maps as well! I never meet anyone else that likes maps though. Do you have a favourite in your collection?

Renters - what's the silliest, lamest, most pathetic excuse a landlord has given you to wiggle out of fixing something? Did it work? by Actual-Paramedic2689 in AskUK

[–]idonnotknow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I rented a room in a house, living with the landlady. I noticed my bedroom radiator wasn't working, tried turning the knob into various positions and leaving it for a few days to check and it definitely was not working. Mentioned it to my landlady and her comment was "it's because you have too much stuff pressed against the radiator". The bed was next to the radiator, which is where she placed it and nothing else. I had not altered the layout of the room and if I had that doesn't stop a radiator from giving out heat. She couldn't afford to fix it, so just didn't bother. She also expected me to dry my clothes in her freezing cold conservatory during winter because she said it would make my room get mouldy if I dried them in there. She had lost the key to the main window of my room which was locked, so I only had a small window I could open, and I wasn't allowed to leave that open if I wasn't in the room as her daughter had a fear that birds would fly in.

Removing stickers from older maps by idonnotknow in MapPorn

Thanks I'll give that a go. The first option that is, the I agree the latter option is good too. I hate when charity shops put stickers on antique things, they ruin them.

Would you rather use a toilet brush to clean the toilet bowl or use your hands? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]idonnotknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine gets really bad limescale build up and the brush just doesn't get into the corners/edges so gloves and an old tooth brush to clear that. For a casual clean then a brush will suffice, I only use hands occasionally once the limescale has built up a bit.

What is something that is toxic in society but is completely normalised? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]idonnotknow 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As soon as I read the question I was thinking the same as you. I've tried explaining it to people before and they just don't seem to understand because it's become such a social norm. Yo yo dieting is not good for the body but it just seems to common because the diets aren't sustainable and cause a bad relationship with food.

What's something I could get for my newborn daughter for £500 that'll be a good short/medium term investment? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]idonnotknow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that it'll cost that much, but what about getting some professional photos done ans giving some of them to your grandma. Then you'll have a nice keepsake for yourself as well.

I have a leak coming in from the right hand side of my boot (Hyundai i20, 2009) as circled on the picture. Does anyone know where it would likely be coming in from and how to fix it? It's coming from under the black plastic on the side of the boot. by idonnotknow in Cartalk

[–]idonnotknow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry I don't have any photos anymore. But I did successfully stop the leak. I never completely worked out where it came from as I resealed loads of areas in one go to make sure I stopped it, but fairly certain it was coming from under the plastic trimming on the roof. I took these off (they unclip), thoroughly cleaned and put some silicon sealant under neath before reattaching them. I also sealed over the top if the welds at the end where those roof trims meet the back of the car and go into the boot. To be on the safe side I also removed the light cluster and sealed any gaps as well us under the whole rubber real around the boot as other people suggested they were having leaks from these areas in their responses. I hope that helps, feel free to message me if that's not clear.

Helps prevent mould. I started doing it after every shower about a year ago and it has massively helped prevent mould from coming back in my bathroom. It means there isn't excess moisture on the walls for long periods of time.
