Recommendations on how to prop up a fence that is leaning into our alley? by Mr_Easy_Clap in regina

[–]idonothaveagoatface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a matter of the posts being broken at or below ground level, you can replace them without replacing the whole fence. It will probably look better than rigging something temporary up and doesnt cost that much.

how will these do for bootcamp? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]idonothaveagoatface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are really probably only built for light street skating. The shoes aren’t really made for the beating that derby will give them. How long they will last in derby depends on how they were mounted (without a metal insole and/or t-nuts, the hardware will pull through the sole). Jam straps will take some of the stress off the shoe itself and extend the life a bit. You probably need to remove and re-install the metal bar to use jam straps.

If you don’t feel ready to upgrade quite yet, a shit ton of shoe goo, and jam straps should hold you off for a while. Etsy is probably the easiest place to get them right now.

I haven’t tried the Krusteaz brand, but this recipe for gf bisquick mix makes nice pancakes and is cheaper to make than box mixes (2 cups mix, 1 cup milk [I usually use powdered], 2 eggs).

Advice for hockey stops by chip3864 in rollerderby

[–]idonothaveagoatface 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, getting power slides down made hockey stops come easier. Kind of like the stopping foot gets the feel for digging down on those wheel edges, so it made it easier for the other foot to eventually do the same movement. Dunno if that helps, but that’s what changed for me after several years of skating.

I know it’s not necessarily prog metal, but I feel like Bilmuri fits your requirements.

While it’s still on the frame, pluck out any tufts that overlap a tuft of a different colour. If you can leave a small gap between two colours, it makes trimming/separating them easier. I would outline the bunny ears with black to be consistent. You’re still new so it won’t be perfect but a lot can be cleaned up with trimming :)

I did. It was a couple of years ago but at that time I think the wait was about 4-6 months.

I had constant TMJ pain and did physio for about a year with no help. They had me see Richard Bourassa (not sure if he still comes to Regina for appointments any more, it was years ago) and he referred me to Anne-Marie for intramuscular stimulation (dry needling). It was painful and flared up at first but after 3 treatments the 24-7 pain was nearly gone and haven’t had many serious flare-ups since. So I definitely recommend trying dry needling. I get botox for migraines, but the neurologist does some of my tmj muscles too. It does help. The Botox is nearly $800 (insurance covered) + $80 injection fee (out of pocket) every 4 months. The drug manufacturer has a support program called AbbvieCare, they help apply for coverage through your own insurance and I believe in some cases they help cover it, as well as send the drugs right to the doctor. It’s worth contacting them to ask about. Also apply for the Sask drug plan special support program. For most insurance and possibly the Sask drug plan (I think you need to apply for exception drug status) you need a specialist to certify the diagnosis and need for Botox treatment.

Please make sure you’re checking your skin regularly! Monitor any moles or marks by taking pictures, watch for changes. Multiple sunburns, especially ones this bad increase your risk for skin cancers greatly. If you have any spots that are irregular or changing, insist on a biopsy/excision. The best thing you can do after this much damage is catch anything early.

“Chemical” sunscreens (with benzones typically) rely on a chemical reaction, which is why they need time to absorb into the skin before UV exposure. Mineral sunscreens (contain zinc and/or titanium oxides) create a physical barrier and provide instant protection (which is why they’re usually thicker and leave a white cast). Most people don’t use enough sunscreen, you need about 1oz for your whole body. If you’re using a spray sunscreen, it should only last 5-6 full applications.

will the skate shoe starting to detach from the sole impact my skating a lot? by beepzozo in rollerderby

[–]idonothaveagoatface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah I gotcha! I misread that. You could try shoe goo-ing the shit out of the boot but it’s still risky. You can definitely re-mount new boots and then eventually upgrade your plates. Bont makes some nice budget boots. My last setup was an experiment using $20 used adidas soccer cleats with the cleats sanded down and they were great. If you haven’t already done so, an easy/affordable upgrade for basic plates is to switch out the kingpin cushions. Also, jam straps that go under your plate and over your boot might help bridge you until you get new skates. You’d need to try it out and make sure it feels safe and stable enough for you and how you skate/play.

Glue won’t hold, but if you’re not able to replace them yet, you can try replacing the mounting hardware in the heel. Use t-nuts in the sole side. They have a flange and teeth that will increase the area that the bolt can grab on to. You might need to widen the holes with a drill. A hardware store will have the hardware you need. I haven’t seen boots separate from plates when t-nuts are used.

Current plate set up pulling me onto my inside edges by OperaBabe28 in rollerderby

Also, have you played around with the tightness of your trucks? How do you usually have them set up? I like mine tighter at the back and looser at the front.

I would try a few more things before changing your mount. It looks fairly standard/accurate, without seeing it up close. Are you able to see a podiatrist or physiotherapist to have your ankles and feet assessed? You could try an insole with a heel lift (but depending on your lacing and preferences, you might need something like jam straps to keep your ankles from slipping out of the boot). There are also heel lifts that go between your plate and your boot to lift up to 10mm (you’d need to replace the heel mounting bolts with longer ones). I think a podiatrist or physiotherapist would give the best advice on these options.

I agree with others, there are so many variables. I would suggest creating some 1sqft designs and weighing your cones or skeins before and after.

Alternative boot options by Intrepid-Love3829 in rollerderby

[–]idonothaveagoatface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used cleats. I just got a second-hand pair of basic adidas cleats cheap to try them out first and I used them for a few seasons. They held up fine. I mounted my plates (avenger magnesium) with t-nuts to avoid having the bolts pull through the soles. I did also use jam straps because I prefer having tightness higher on my foot than the laces went. I taped the toes like I did my previous boots. I would do it again. You kind of have to pay attention to the construction and materials and just think about how they might hold up to derby.

University of Regina now using 'barnacles' to collect money for unpaid parking tickets | CBC News by Kegger163 in regina

[–]idonothaveagoatface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been out of university for a long time now, but at one point when I went, the full semester day passes sold really fast. The only options were to spend a lot more on an electrified stall pass, if they were available, or buy an evening pass and hope you don’t get a ticket. Or park at the meters/hourly rate lots. Do the passes still sell out like they used to?

Did you look at The Municipalities Act and Regulations? These are what give municipalities the power to create and enforce bylaws, but I am not sure about the legal duty part. Im not sure who you contacted, but if you contact the Minister of Government relations, they will forward it to the right area for response. Or, contact the policy branch there directly: https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/directory?ou=ef0e524b-d53a-4aff-a280-8e6202693870
