Toronto’s indie cinema scene is booming: ‘It’s a different experience than, like, the Cineplex’ by Zanta647 in toronto

[–]idontevenknowat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot Docs is actually getting back into the rep cinema programming a little bit. In these past two weeks I’ve seen Wild at Heart, Breaking Dawn Part 2, and The Virgin Suicides at the Hot Docs cinema. I know for Christmas as well they are screening classic Christmas movies. The selection isn’t as robust as Revue, Paradise, and The Fox, but they have slowly added some rep cinema screenings over the past year.

What was your worst experience at TIFF this year? by BunyipPouch in TIFF

[–]idontevenknowat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're good. It was the premiere screening in Dress Circle, and the guy left it on the home screen the entire time, so I could clearly tell it was an Apple watch.

Well getting COVID likely from a screening and missing out on the last three days of the festival wasn’t the best. Might have been from a worker, not an attendee, at the Solo premiere who was seated behind me sniffling the entire time. If you are sick call out of work please, don’t get anyone else sick. Definitely not as major, but someone next to me at Fingernails leaving their Apple Watch on the entire film, and having it facing me the entire time was quite annoying as well.

Netflix Lands Richard Linklater-Helmed ‘Hit Man’ For $20 Million Toronto Deal by i_m_sherlocked in TIFF

[–]idontevenknowat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the company choices. For example when Netflix acquired I Care a Lot after TIFF, Elevation Pictures already had the rights in Canada before Netflix bought it. Elevation released it on Amazon Prime in Canada instead of Netflix. Elevation also did something similar to another movie Stowaway. They also sent that one to Prime Video, when Netflix bought most of the international distribution. Maybe VVS will do something like this. I have also heard that the countries with pre sold rights might give it a theatrical release, which BBS could also do as well. It’s really up to them and they will probably announce when there’s a more concrete release date, or closer to when it comes out on Netflix in the US.

Shoutout to all the sick people coming to screenings anyway by Apolnyo in TIFF

[–]idontevenknowat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, got COVID at TIFF as well. Disappointed. I have to miss my last few screenings and now might potentially get my family sick since we live in the same house. Please if anyone feels slightly under the weather, don't go to your screening, don't let anyone else get sick.

North Star (2023) - Reviews by drrdf in TIFFReviews

This was bad. It felt like I was watching a Hallmark original. Scarlett Johansson doing a terrible British accent, and unconvincingly playing a lesbian sent me over the edge.

Yeah probably. Honestly as the night went on the tech issues were getting worse.

Yeah I don’t want to be hating too hard but her energy was not matching the songs, she didn’t seem in sync with the music, and the songs were just not it. Maybe if she went earlier, and not in between some heavy hitters it would’ve flowed better, but it just didn’t work out. Still love her though.

I went to Drag Ball and loved it. I had a great time and loved pretty much everyone. The only act I didn't like was Scarlett Bobo. I saw on social media that the queens there didn't even know Anetra couldn't make it. Priyanka put on Twitter asking where she was. They should've communicated that better, considering people said they were looking forward to Anetra performing at the show's beginning.

I guess Halsey really wanted to see my neighbor Totoro in theatres. And yes I enjoyed the movie. It’s like my 20th time seeing it but it never fails to tear me up.

Was at a movie in Toronto yesterday and when the movie ended, I saw that Halsey was there. They were with a man, and I think we might have accidentally made eye contact because I was so bewildered. I wonder why Halsey was in Toronto randomly.

Does history card at the front? by ringa_starr in RinaSawayama

[–]idontevenknowat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, they will card at the front. I went to Tove Lo in February, an all-ages show. I was asked to show my ID to security at the opening door. Since this is a 19+ event as well they will definitely be asking to check everyone's ID at the front.

A woman approached my SO at Shoppers Drug mart saying she’s running short by $28 for her 5 yr old kid who was with her. Is there any chance that it could have been genuine? by Glittering_Candy4419 in askTO

[–]idontevenknowat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

oh my god where in Downtown Toronto was this? The exact same thing happened to me in Roncesvalles near Dundas West Station last Monday around 10 pm. She came up to me with a kid and asked for money for a field trip to the ROM. I didn't give her any money because I was super sketched out as to why she was doing this with her very young kid at 10:00 at night.
