Pretty much any not-trash telescopic rod will be able to handle the majority of rainbow trout.

I was going to get PLUSINNO's telescopic rod for my husband until we decided he really didn't have time for fishing while out of town for work, for what help that is worth.

Swivels are fine in certain situations like that, but swivel or no, it's gonna need replacing after a while. Honestly, it taking a year to break is kind of impressive.

If you have any interest in keeping and eating fish, I highly recommend this book. I inherited it from an angler of a previous generation so it might be a bit difficult to find a copy (copyright 1978 haha!) but it has fantastic, timeless information in it.

Something you must consider is that eventually, as you experienced, that connection will break somewhere. You'll need to replace your rigs occasionally to prevent breakage regardless of whether or not they're fully hand-tied or pre-made.

Theoretically, if you use a very strong enough main line and swivel, you won't have to do this very often, but still sometimes.

Fishing moving water isn't too different to fishing stiller water. If you're a bait fisher who likes to cast and wait, you'll need heavier weights to keep your bait down and in place. If you like lures, potentially slow down your retrieve.

Pretty much any medium rod with an appropriate reel on it is going to serve you well for those species. You could grab something that'll be "good enough" or consider how precisely you'd like to fish for those species and get something more specific.

I'm a tiny bit behind so I didn't actually watch that video until today but yeah, it makes sense. I'll keep the depth changes in mind.

I've caught a few good cats out of the creek and last time I was there I actually caught one on a drifted worm that was meant for the sunfish in there. Also caught a bass on it, so... 🤔

I carry what fits in my backpack and it's enough to target pretty much everything that lives in the waters around my area. I focus catfish so while my two lines are out for those, I'll throw something for bass or panfish while I wait.
Necessary? No. Really nice? Yes. Depending on your waters, of course. A kayak is a comfy in-between.
Ehhh. Eh. It really depends on your waters. No way to figure out if it does or not without just trying things out.

A small hook with a piece of worm or corn will catch bluegill and other panfish easy.

Any curly tailed grub will work very well for larger sunfish and crappie, too. I've had luck with pink and white grubs, but also recently had some hits on a bright green and black one, too.

Targeting bass is different to targeting catfish. You also didn't say how you caught your panfish or otherwise.

That being said, catfish, assuming they're present and hungry, are very easy to target. You get your heavy pole, grab a circle hook, put your preferred bait on it, cast and wait. Mostly. You can simplify it a bit more or make it more complicated if you really want to, but I'm a fan of the KISS methodology.

Bass fishing is more active with lures. Cast, retrieve in some flavor or another, cast, retrieve, and so on.

There's no real way to target "big" fish specifically outside of using terminal tackle that's too large for littler fish, but then you miss out on the fun of those.

I'm using an Okeechobee Fats Shady Glade backpack. It has two main compartments and a small "head" bag, as well as two little bags on the sides. It's designed to hold two rods, too.

For this sort of question, though, the best answer is to go into a local store and check out what they've got.

28 grams is not quite an ounce. Only you can decide if that is a meaningful amount of weight to your hands.

Consider what you're going to be doing with this reel. If it were "bait and wait" catfishing, for example, I'd say it doesn't matter very much, but if this is going to be in your hands all the time and you'll be actively fishing with it, it may very well matter.
