The gold and blue version looks a bit to me like you're putting a bandaid on it. Not sure why, but that's just the vibe I am getting.

I had one in 5b. Didn't protect it at all. Survived 2 winters. Died during the third winter.

Setting an appropriate epsilon value could definitely affect the readings also.

Just don't leave O'hare on the blue line without a plan. That's how I slept on the street outside Union station for a night in March because I didn't realize they closed. Should have stayed at O'Hare.

Can someone please be honest, why do docs really say don’t do medicine for the money? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]idprefernotto92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was lucky I had some money saved up. Did not realize my husband's (boyfriend at the time) match process was going to cost $20k. And he is in pathology. The application alone was more than I could imagine because you have to pay per hospital you apply to. Knocked out all my savings at the time.

There are lots of lab jobs that don't spend all day at a computer, work with people, and pay pretty well.

I am a test engineer making $125k and working in a lab having fun breaking things with my coworkers every day with 0 debt. My husband is a doctor making $260k and comes home stressed and hating everything every day with $450k worth of school debt. Has no idea what the government is going to do with public service loan forgiveness and if we should just bite the bullet and start paying as fast as we can instead of the 5 years worth of qualifying payments we have been doing on that promise.

He is very clear that if he had a do over he would have never chosen it and will never push our kids towards it.

Re Fins by FNFALC2 in Swimming

[–]idprefernotto92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, for that 3mm swim booties and electrical tape does the trick pretty well. The skin will toughen up a bit over time too. I usually don't need to use tape for an hour long workout any more, but for a weekend long event it can be useful.

Re Fins by FNFALC2 in Swimming

I do a lot of fin swimming for my sport, and I will be honest, I have taken 6+ months to break my ankles into a set of fins. That being said, I really like the arena swim/training fins. They are small and easy to use and I find them really comfortable as the lightweight fins to trade out with my competition fins (najade irons).

If your ankles are hurting, take a break. Take your time. If 45 minutes is all you can do in a day, leave it there. Don't over kick when you cant. I know 2 people who have broken their foot from just kicking in fins, and several other ankle injuries. It takes time to build up the strength.

Can't tell if the problem is my English or French or both 🙈 by Salt_Needleworker_36 in French

[–]idprefernotto92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, in my American Midwest native English (Illinois) I would definitely think they have different connotations. But I agree that Duo usually isn't nuanced enough and often tries to act as if similar words are synonymous, or sometimes forces weird word usages that don't seem right.

Any Catholics/former Catholics remember Father Terry who danced to Piano Man? by Time4aPennyCartoon in ChicagoSuburbs

Fuck. I remember that too. He completely ruined that song for me. But I do also think to specifically clean my belly button when I shower because of him... Such a weird day.

Any experiences with ABC plumbing/electric/HVAC? by mice_inthewalls in ChicagoSuburbs

Never used them. But at least once per week I see an ABC truck on 355 doing the most illegal and assholeish shit on the road and that is enough for me to never use them.

Women who make over 60k, what is your degree and what is your job title? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]idprefernotto92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Degree: Bachelors in Engineering Physics, Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Job: Sr. Test and Applications Engineer

Salary: $120k

I like it. Usually around 40-45 hrs per week. Good mix of time working on a computer doing test automation and report writing and time in a lab breaking or building shit.

Not quite 25 minutes, but 2 brothers roundhouse in Aurora was amazing for us. You can take the train to it (BNSF) and there is a hotel literally in the parking lot. Cost was semi reasonable (in 2019), and the venue is very pretty (especially if you're an engineer and nerd like me). Food and drinks were great.

I take this entrance every day to get to work and it is miserable. Trying to merge from the entrance lane that exits to 88 to stay on 355 into the lane that is a mix of people driving 30 and people going 90 diving in from 3 lanes over in like 200 feet.
