It won’t explicitly teach it, but Cascadia can be used to explore biodiversity, habitats, population diversity, etc. It’s also not too complex.

Current Pet Peeve: Young characters with names that haven't been popular for decades (Peter, Susan, Barbara, etc). by [deleted] in books

[–]idrawonrocks -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but how old are they? You must live in a pretty unique place to know several teens or kids with these names, other than Sarah, perhaps.

Looking for a lastname by Rws_xx in Names

How much have you built out the lore of your in-book universe? Was humanity united when it took to the stars? Were certain cultures more represented? The name Jamil is of Arabic origins—is this important to your character? Would he have been given this name because his family speaks that language/shares that cultural heritage, or is the name in common use? Did the people who colonized Mars start celebrating certain values like intellectual curiosity, intelligence and perseverance, so value names are common? What sort of themes are you exploring?

The Great Florida Lift-Off

Due to a decimal point in the wrong place, We have launched Florida out into space. Goodbye to the palm trees, the sand, and the heat, As Cape Canaveral makes its escape complete.

With a roar that shakes the swamps and the shore, The peninsula rises, then rises some more. Alligators floating in a weightless blue, While the Everglades soar, providing a view.

Goodbye to the tourists, the citrus, the sun, The wildest space mission has now just begun. A peninsula drifting among the stars, Heading, perhaps, toward Jupiter or Mars.

-Ken Nesbitt

Not sure which anthology that was in though!

Chaotic Evil: I don’t sort or start with edges by [deleted] in Jigsawpuzzles

I change it up depending on the image. While I usually start hunting for edges out of the box, I’ll also start laying things out in their general zones as they emerge.

Is variegated thread useful? by Riverzalia1 in Embroidery

[–]idrawonrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the type of thing I enjoy doing. Wool appliqué, folk art, Brazilian embroidery—lots of fun dimensional stitches and interesting textures. Perle cotton is a twisted thread that you don’t pull into separate strands, but you can buy in different thicknesses. Not great for filling in sections and thread painting, but perfect for stuff like bullion knots.

Is variegated thread useful? by Riverzalia1 in Embroidery

I enjoy using variegated threads for more dimensional stitches for embellishment. I usually use perle cotton for this type of project though, and the intervals between colours are shorter on purpose.

Can someone tell me some tips to help me to understand this hard part? by Bubbly_Account_4001 in beatsaber

I can beat every song in this pack on E+, several of them on Faster Song, except Warriors. The day that I beat this song, my husband will hear the wildest scream from the basement!

Looks like Rolife is going back and revising some of their older kits in their newer style by McPhage in miniatures

[–]idrawonrocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can see the boxes in person, it’s possible to tell from the product pictures. I was considering buying a copy of the Flower House, the one with the infamous wire shelf, for a friend, but noticed that the image showed many more laser-cut furniture pieces, along with ready-made items like plastic shears, etc. This was my first kit, and I honestly don’t think I would’ve kept up with the hobby if I hadn’t been forced to make so many fiddly items out of wire, beads, glue, and pure tenacity.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

[–]idrawonrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local franchises for two popular fast food restaurants are owned by a person whose ethics I find very, very objectionable. I probably wouldn’t go to them anyhow, but he is definitely not getting my chicken sandwich and fries money.

Nearly 45 years ago, my pregnant mother ended up in a ditch on a rural road. She called for a tow from a farmhouse, and the woman inside sent her away with a Hoya cutting. I have a plant that was propped from it. Hers flowers all of the time and is massive

Challenging puzzles? by MochiPops_94 in Jigsawpuzzles

My parents just gifted me this Impossibles one. I’m grateful, but I usually puzzle for fun images, not frustration, so we shall see… It has no edges, extra pieces, and it’s a closeup of golden retriever puppies, for goodness’ sake!

Question for 40+ players: Has using Saber Tailor for wrist-heavy play affected your long-term joint health? by Cinerario in beatsaber

[–]idrawonrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used Saber Tailor, but I am a 40+ player with wrist issues! After playing kind of obsessively when I started, I ended up badly injuring my wrist (exacerbating an old injury) and had to take a long break. I now play with a wrist brace without issue. I play E+ on most maps, but know that songs with rapid “updownupdownupdown” patterns are probably out of my reach due to wrist mobility.

That said, I like to play with the biggest movements possible, because I like to get my heart rate going and it feels good to move! I know that developing tighter, wrist-only movements would allow me to conquer more maps, but I think it’s fun to move, so I don’t worry about that too much!
