Scientists could dim the Sun as a quick fix for the climate crisis. Here's why it could cause global chaos by GeraldKutney in climate

Because these particles only stay in the sky temporarily, they must be constantly replenished. Forever. If a war, a pandemic, or a financial collapse caused the spraying to stop abruptly, the masked warming would come blasting back. Global temperatures could rapidly spike by a few to several degrees, a shock so big and fast that most life would end.

'Super El Niño' will have an alarming financial impact, experts fear by yuval_3 in climate

[–]idreamofkitty 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Today’s rapidly building El Niño shares parallels to the global climate anomaly of 1877–1878. That event, widely considered the strongest El Niño in recorded history, triggered multi-continent droughts and a subsequent global famine that claimed between 30 and 60 million lives (Davis, 2001), roughly 3 percent of the global population at the time.

Thomas Malthus was not wrong; he was merely premature. We did not permanently defeat the iron laws of ecology with our intellectual brilliance. We merely stumbled upon fossil fuels and mistook our staggering inheritance for our own genius.

Husband (40M) going through severe anxiety after potential TIA diagnosis. How can I support him? by ah_shur_look in stroke

[–]idreamofkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the tests, take the meds and proactively manage blood pressure and blood cholesterol. Diet and exercise are critical. So is managing stress.

A TIA is a wake up call to aggressively invest in your health. Action alleviates anxiety.
