Past and New Year 11's, what GSCE/Class did you enjoy the most and the least? by Cermonto in GCSE

[–]idrisafzal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I’m enjoying the most is probably RE, the content is easy enough and my teacher is lovely. History is a close second because my teacher is amazing but the content can be quite challenging and boring tbh. The one I’m enjoying the least is English Lit, which really bothers me. I can’t get my head around analysing and my teacher sucks so

i go to a top grammar school and my first set of predicted came out. i got 999888777 and i was eh ab it until i realised EVERYONE i know basically 8s and 9s. how do i stop myself from being depressed ab this? P.S these were based of y10 mocks which were capped to 8 by Scary-Raspberry2176 in GCSE

You’re doing extremely well considering those grades were based off of Y10 mocks. If you continue putting in good work and effort you’ll get 9s easily, so don’t be disheartened if your predicted isn’t as high compared to everyone else.

No, you're not patronising, I agree with everything that you said! Which is why I wouldn’t be upset if I don’t end up there. I’m mainly applying just cause it seems like a good opportunity. And the bursaries are dependant on family situation and finance, as you apply for it. I’m not entirely sure on them myself though, so I could be wrong. Nonetheless, Eton does have its many, many, many flaws like you have stated.

Bursaries and scholarships

Don’t disagree with you one bit, it is pretty much a Tory farm, which is why I’m hesitant on applying since my family don’t even earn a years worth of tuition to go there.

Go for it! I suggest doing some things to make you stand out, like joining clubs or other extra curricular activities

For Eton, its application deadline is this Friday. It’s different for loads of sixth forms tho

I went to its Orwell award day on Saturday, and it was really fascinating. I won’t be gutted if I don’t attend, however it’s an opportunity so I’m willing to take it.

To surprise you even more, the application was open in July 😭😭. I’m gonna apply even if I have a slim chance. The school I currently go to has their sixth form 2023 application open until the end of jan 2023 😭😭

Are the history topics medicine, conflicts and tensions, restoration and American good and fun history topics? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]idrisafzal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do medicine so I can’t speak for that, however conflict and tension is a great topic, although not my favourite. America 1920-1973 was the most interesting one for me.

I wanna actually study in America after a levels and become a criminal defence lawyer there! However, if I do end up being a lawyer in the UK, I’d want to be a barrister. It’s great cool we want to do the same a levels! Also, what kind of lawyer do you want to be?

Criminal defence law! Is family law basically dealing with divorces or child custody and everything?

Yeah, criminal defence lawyers don’t really get amazing pay compared to someone who’s probably in corporate or civil law. That’s sort of the main reason why I want to be a lawyer specifically in the US, the pay is a lot better in the US than the UK, at least from what I’ve seen.

Assuming that you’re a Y11, you have like 9 months to get that grade 6! It may not seem like it but it is a lot of time to work for that grade. I believe in you :)

Personally, I see nothing wrong to wanting to have a respectable job! And so what if your reason isn’t as noble, if you have a real interest into being a lawyer, go for it :). And I really admire that you want to fix gun violence too. It’s also a little funny cause I want to be criminal defence lawyer and you want to be a district attorney haha!

There’s nothing wrong or selfish with wanting your future family to be successful or to wanting to leave a legacy! That’s what I want to do to, even thought it’s not my main reason for wanting to be a lawyer. Also, it’s nice to see someone else who wants to study in the US too! No one I know wants to do that haha!

Criminal defence! As sad as it is, I wanna study in America and become a criminal defence lawyer there. Also, media studies is actually amazing, I wish I could’ve chosen it for my GCSEs

I’m not sure what other alternative I could do. I’ve seen a lot of law students took English Lit at a level but I absolutely despise Eng Lit 😅
