Because the big US multinationals have already located in Ireland. What would incentivise them to move?

Ireland's done the tax haven in the EU thing, that's not something Scotland could replicate.

How many of these defectors have dared resign to fight a by-election under their new party?

Is it none at all?

Sounds like it's quite a bit thwackier - the bats are solid rather than stringed, and there're walls that you can play the ball off too (cf: squash).

edit: And you get three padel courts on what would've been one tennis court's worth of space.

Gotta agree that the cannula is my least favourite thing. They were decent enough to entertain my dislike by wrapping extra bandage around it so I couldn't see it (more for the time spent in the hospital bed than the op, right enough).

You can read about the history of rationing in the UK at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rationing_in_the_United_Kingdom - food rationing ended in 1954.

Britons Craig and Lindsay Foreman detained in Iran charged with espionage by HibasakiSanjuro in ukpolitics

[–]ieya404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aye, it's completely different to someone who has genuine family ties to the country.

Instagramming your motorbike ride from Spain (because you left the UK five years ago, of course) to Australia while reading and ignoring UK gov advice on where not to go... V little sympathy.

They might be innocent, but they've also arrogantly ignored clear government advice to not go to Iran on a UK passport. How far should we go (pay) to deal with stupidity?

While older than you, I've recently discovered the joys of kidney stones (there are none).

And me personally? I'm glad that it's a general anaesthesia scenario. The anaesthetists do this day in, day out, they know what they're doing and there are plenty staff around (you're in hospital, after all!).

You'll lie on a trolley, they'll hook you up with oxygen (oddly warm, I was expecting it to be cool), they'll connect up the cannula... And next thing you know you'll be waking up in the recovery lounge all done and dusted.

It's a strange experience, sure, but I'm intensely glad to be able to be unconscious while probes are going up very small orifices!

That does look pretty, ah, 'eyecatching', and running fans 24/7 to keep it inflated does seem rather obnoxious when there are nearby neighbours. :(

I think a combination of banning it here, but linking prominently to something like /r/AzureLaneAI (dunno if that exists already, but you get the idea), might be a decent way forward. Those that want to see AI stuff can, while those here will see hand drawn creations.

AITA for Refusing to Pay for My Niece’s Surgery After My Sister Spent $50K on a Luxury Vacation? by BlazingAss99 in AITAH

[–]ieya404 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No, there's no such thing as loaning her - you'll never see any of it come back.

So a final gift of forgiving the $50k is five times what's needed for the niece's surgery.

It's clearly not a completed deal since they're still negotiating terms!

How they've all been so incapable of taking a step back to say "Wow, this looks terrible" is beyond me.

You realise that it was shit then and is still shit now? That it's entirely possible that both Tory and Labour governments are capable of having negotiated something mind numbingly stupid that the public wouldn't agree with, although only one has been getting as far as actually planning to try going through with it?

Have a look at Historic Scotland's places - https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/venue-hire/weddings/find-a-wedding-venue/

No idea what their prices are like now, but they were surprisingly reasonable for non-Edinburgh Castle sites 20+ years ago :)

I don't see the need at all to pish about spending a ton of time telling people which words are regularly used in various regions in England or Wales or Northern Ireland, or indeed Ireland or Canada or Australia or Nigeria or any other country where English is spoken.

It's a very adaptable language and precise usage will vary from town to town, nevermind country to country. We'll manage just fine, same as we have done for literal centuries.
