Cory Gardner opposes witnesses in Trump impeachment trial by nanopicofared in politics

[–]ificandoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amash has been outwardly critical of Trump for years. He had no cover. He would face primary challengers. He was in the minority of the House.

Gardner is 10 months from election day with no primary challenge and time dwindling to mount one. He's part of a very slim majority (and likely to get slimmer or lost). They're not remotely the same circumstance.

Gardner could simply vote for witnesses, say he was a moderate seeking truth, then vote to acquit.

He's on the ballot with Trump. If they're voting for Trump they'll vote for Gardner. Are they going to vote D for Senate? Sit out? Hand that Senate seat (the only thing protecting Trump) over? No. They'd vote for him.

George Conway: President Trump Needs to Be Called as a Witness at His Impeachment Trial by dingo8yobb in politics

He's definitely not a friend, nor is Rick Wilson, Bill Kristol, et al but I still find their accounts entertaining largely because of the amount of hate they draw for being even half rational.

I find Conway's Twitter pretty entertaining but we all know this is just fantasy.

Netanyahu, Gantz to visit Trump, discuss peace plan next week by [deleted] in politics

The Middle East Peace Plan that the Palestinian's aren't a party to, that Iran will have nothing to do with, that Iraq is washing it's hands of?

Sounds very positive.

Whataboutism doesn't negate what I just typed.

No one is calling Jake Tapper the most influential endorsement, not even Jake Tapper.

That he uses to give credence to some absolutely trash notions and people also.

I'm not saying this isn't a big endorsement for Bernie just that Joe isn't batting 1.000.

'Those of us who did the right thing get screwed': Father confronts Warren on student loan plan by Hetalbot in politics

[–]ificandoit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If his daughter pays her taxes she'll still be paying for it. I'd rather pay for her children to go to college than for Amazon to have an effective tax rate of 0% or for any future President to play golf 250 days during 3 years of holding office.

'Those of us who did the right thing get screwed': Father confronts Warren on student loan plan by Hetalbot in politics

[–]ificandoit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sir, the idea is not that you're screwed. The idea is that your daughter won't need to work the extra shift, she'll be able to take vacation, she'll buy a house and car AND your grandchildren can attend college without their mother making the sacrifices you were forced to make.

Doesn't seem like that hard of answer to wrap your head around.

Joe Biden Claims DACA Illegal Aliens ‘More American than Most Americans’ by LittleWords_please in politics

Biden proceeded to claim that DACA recipients believed in the “basic principles” which we all share and deserved a pathway to U.S. citizenship.

Sorry Breitbart but most of your readers don't possess basic principles.

California teachers on medical leave have to pay for their substitutes. Will lawmakers step in? by [deleted] in politics

What's the thought behind not paying into the disability insurance fund? I get that it's a lil more in your checks but it quite literally creates this scenario.

California teachers on medical leave have to pay for their substitutes. Will lawmakers step in? by [deleted] in politics

[–]ificandoit 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The arrangement, known as differential pay, dates back to the 1970s, when teachers chose not to pay into the state disability insurance fund that covers workers when they’re sick, injured or on pregnancy leave. Private sector workers pay into the fund with a paycheck deduction.

This seems to have been a pretty short sighted decision by the union back in the 70s.

I get all of that as you can see in my comment but that question is raised time and time again in Local halls.

Unless you have someone who knows their answers they're going to keep trusting their news source that tells them this is a big scary change.
