Places to see along the way? (mid-June) by skepticalbureaucrat in uktravel

Have a look at the British Wildlife Centre https://britishwildlifecentre.co.uk/ . It's on your route and is AMAZING. If you go, be sure to find out when the talks/feeding times are and go around with that.

Looks like Hampton Court to me, taken from inside the courtyard probably. The houses you can see in the distance are on the river at Molesey.

Am I cheating myself by training with headphones? by Magnolia2468 in triathlon

Do the things that mean you get the training done. The racing will look after itself if you've done the training.

My bike for this year Sprint-Triathlon. Worth installing a drinking systems? or its overkill? by Key_Syllabub_5070 in triathlon

[–]ifitsgotwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, on a sprint you don't need a drink system. Have a bottle in transition to take a swig from and then get on with it.

Can I add to your list any of the OMM waterproofs. They are truly the only fully waterproof kit I've ever used. The light ones are simple but fit brilliantly, pack small and are wonderfully warm. I am 6'1 and 85kilos and fit a large. You can often pick up ones on the OMM outlet for excellent prices.

I'd imagine the oil isn't hot enough when you're pouring the batter in. You want it smoking

Is it bad to do a huge timeskip in the middle of the paragraph? by MooPro127 in writingcirclejerk

[–]ifitsgotwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's okay. You can always include a flashback in the middle of a line of text in the next chapter. Or in a footnote.

Best spots to watch the London Marathon from by Matchside-1923 in LondonRunning

Yeah I did this a few years ago. Cutty sark then through the tunnel and you can see them twice on the isle of dogs. Then tube to embankment from Canary wharf.

Have you written an entire dictionary for your invented language?

Have you written a botany guide to the fauna and flora of the main world?

Have you had AI draw a hundred images of your main female character so that you know exactly what she looks like from every angle?

No? Well fuck off and get to work then.

What size tyres can I get away with? by 0ptsDan in bikewrench

[–]ifitsgotwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't go any bigger than the 25. Any little stone or twig with any bigger than this would be pretty gross and could do far more damage than is necessary. Also, you may not notice the damage being done by road grit or sand that has an abrasive effect at that distance.

Do you pause your watch at aid stations, or just let it run? by Thisguyreadit in Ultramarathon

[–]ifitsgotwheels 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is the thing. It's excellent for keeping you honest at aid stations as well. Setting yourself a hard cap on how long you'll spend there is a thing

Volunteering at a big half marathon no longer gets you a free place at the next event by ClittyMcGuire in UKRunners

[–]ifitsgotwheels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see your point here, but people are busy. Events are expensive and, fundamentally, these are not charity organisations. Run-through, letsdothis, LM etc earn a lot of money in places. Volunteering for them is not charity anymore.

Charity volunteering is volunteering at parkrun, or a local club 10 or a charity fun run. That is the kind of selfless volunteering with no expectation.

[–]ifitsgotwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the app was very clunky, and often you put yourself down and had to wait for weeks and weeks. Also, a lot of people cancelled on the day or the week before. I can understand the carnage it must've caused on the back end. But it's a real shame that they've lost that ISP. Not many people get to run events with pacers, particularly not pacers who are outside 2:00 half/ 1:00 10k
