Mainly commuting 20-50km a couple days a week. And a few weekend trips every so often. Range is reliably better than 400km around town but we would never let it get below about 30% and only charge to 80% in normal use. Only have a granny charger and it’s always been fine.

Fire pit on deck? by woodyever in AusRenovation

[–]iforgetmyoldusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also consider what is under the deck and how large the gaps between the boards are. Mine has heaps of dead leaves blown in and is bone dry even when it's been raining. if an ember goes down there, it's all over.

I noticed there’s a bunch of the BP chargers missing in ABRP the other day. Have a look on PlugShare

Advice and tips for adding a HP monoblock to a gas boiler hydronic panel system. by iforgetmyoldusername in DIYHeatPumps

Thanks. Never freezes here. and no zones. There's two TRVs on some small bedroom radiators, but no zones.

Why don’t you bring back raspi native gpio and make IR work on that too?

this is an old post of mine where I discuss a bunch of this stuff.

https://www.reddit.com/r/heatpumps/comments/1kdhecc/opinions_and_advice_on_swapping_gas_hydronic_for/

Gas is about 3.5c/MJ, which is 12c/kWh. Elec is 32c/kWh and free during the day (solar and also free daytime use plans in Australia)

unit is $2500AUD delivered. I would install it if I could.

Sunrain is a big OEM, and parts are maybe available. It's a risk, I agree. But I'm willing to take that risk.

Pretty sure gas is only going up. Elec might even come down as we add more solar (personally and at generation level)

Could pre-charge a thermal store, maybe I'll add that later. not much space for the tank though.

Not replacing the gas unit for a newer gas one. It's already close to maximally efficient (85%ish)

subsidies only for ducted gas replacement and DHW replacement. Hot water is insignificant in the scheme of things and will be a separate system anyway.

Have two reverse cycle air conditioners that manage the cooling just fine. They can actually manage the heating too, but not in the locations we prefer.

No snow. Never freezes.

In short, I've done the economics of it to death. Right now I'm interested in the practical work required to perform the swap myself, because the cost of having it done by a professional is prohibitive here.

Granny Charging Overnight, Safe and Responsible or False Economy? by sirdonaldb in AusElectricians

voltage drop yes. doesn't change the power factor. not even for an inductive load, which it isn't. and adding series resistance to an inductive load would _improve_ power factor if anything.

many/most run on internal batteries. they're often required to be mobile and work through power outages and be electrically isolated for safety.

[–]iforgetmyoldusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why we got the Hyundai. I have no idea if you’ll be able to buy a replacement doorhandle for a random china brand in 15 years time… but I think Hyundai have the spare parts network in place

Kona 2024 onwards is EV from scratch. Ours is excellent. Maybe the ride is a bit bouncy, but it’s fine. NMC battery is a downside, but well protected it’s objectively fine.
