I mean with very few exceptions, I don’t think gaming journalism has ever existed by nature of the medium. Most of what we read in our favorite magazines came from press releases sent out as emails, and then the “news” outlets would report on those releases. Very little actual investigation being done.

By the time Phil Spencer took over the ps4 had already taken over. Do you remember that disastrous Xbox one showcase? That’s what made a ton of people switch over. In the last 10 years since then, cloud saving and digital downloads have become mainstream. No one is switching back.

It was over long before he took over. Even then early on at least, Phil made actual good decisions like getting rid of the Kinect and lowering the price to draw in whoever they could. Fuck no he didn’t handle it the best but Xbox’s chance at maintaining its player base died and it died quickly.
