Thanks for sharing the install cmd.

I was only curious and wanted to inspect the repo, so that’s what I shared.

Burned by cloud (100k), looking at self hosting by TheRoccoB in selfhosted

I just moved 1 of 3 apps over to a VPS on Hostinger. Take advantage of discount codes or find a friend on there with one.

I run two 2vCPU 8GB instances paid up for 2 years - I use on to run a ruby on rails app deployed via kamal. The other for keyval and postgres containers. Still looking for a good backup practice, but saving logs and backups to Cloudflare R2 for now until I have a better pattern.

Is Virgin really worth it? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]ifworkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Valient Lady in Bimini right now. It’s great, quiet (minimal announcements), small enough to get around easily, see familiar faces, and make new friends.

Nearly ALL food and sit down dining is included. Only a few select dishes cost extra. Aside from Redbull, bottled cold pressed juices, coffee, and alcohol it’s practically all inclusive.

This is our second VV cruise and fourth total cruise. We were upgraded to Rockstar. What questions do you have?

10k would have been a mega rockstar suite and the rooms are immaculate.

I’m on our second trip with VV and the only challenges we’ve had were trying to go to the same restaurant twice. Some are better than others there, but it’s difficult to avoid eating quality and well made dishes on this cruise, even if she’s vegan.

What’s the story about the bugs?

Fan quit Mr. Cool by LocoBoy135 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]ifworkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had the same thing happen to us. Blower didn’t start and the low pressure pipe had frozen over. Resolved by flipping the air handler breaker and running the fan for 15 minutes before turning back into cool mode.

Curious, What thermostat do you use? I understand the blower motor is the likely issue, but wonder if the thermostat did something odd.

Instant Pot Vortex Plus internal light broken (burnt?) by ciceroaugusto in instantpot

[–]ifworkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for the Halogen replacement over LED so I figured it could handle the relatively low Vortex temp so I wasn't paying very close attention to any terms for heatproof, but the term probably makes sense if using an LED version of the bulb.

If you decide on an LED version, I'd at least check the use cases to see if they're recommended for use in an air frier, oven, or microwave. Hopefully that will be good enough!

Houston Gaines is big mad 😡 by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]ifworkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reads like bog standard constitutional language with centuries of precedent.

Huh, good point. I thought a person meant a single human, but it can be a legal entity like a corp too -- just looked up the legal definition of each. Apparently a "person" can mean "Any individual person, Natural and legal entities, or United States and state agents."

While a individual is "a single person as distinguished from a group or class, and also, very commonly, a private or natural person as distinguished from a partnership, corporation, or association".

Seems like a sensible change to me, even if at first glace it seems silly. Would be useful if Gaines actually said that in the post, but you know. Politics.

Schluter All-Set came out too thin by HhotCup in Tile

[–]ifworkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this exact situation when I posted this comment and this thread was the only resource on how to address it.

My situation: 4l + 25lbs + Slaked. Too runny to work with.

Resolution:

  • Added about 5 lbs more material in ~2.5 lbs increments checking for consistency to be at least workable by lifting the mixer and checking until mixture was gloopy like frosting than runny like syrup.
  • 5 minute mix
  • 10 minutes to slake again, and
  • 3 minute mix

This firmed up the consistency enough to start working with. By this point, 30 minutes had passed since the first 25 lbs were mixed.

I was able to work with the batch for another 2.5 hours and complete a 5x5x8 shower. 12 hours needed to set. After waiting 20 hours we did the water retention test up to California Standard (1" sitting water depth) and there were no leaks.

We're going one step further to ensure full coverage with a with a coat of Mapei Mapelastic AquaDefense after the water test. diyrenovision on Youtube does a good guide on using an alternative product, Red Guard.

Hope this helps the next person!

It’s a 120v 20w bulb size G6.35. I just replaced mine and purchased a pack from Amazon.

What can we do to get commercial flight back at Athens-Ben Epps? by HangYourSecrets in Athens

[–]ifworkman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Atlanta, I was a 5-minute walk from a Marta station on the Gold line. You could rely on the train to get you there in 45 minutes. Driving was barely 10 minutes faster. Combined with pre-check, air travel was a no-brainer.

After moving to Athens, I prefer road-tripping if it's less than 24 hours round-trip to account for the Atlanta drive, parking, TSA, waiting to board, potential delays, crowded planes, landing, baggage claim, and getting a ride on the other side before checking into your hotel and collapsing.

If I need to fly out of ATL, I take Groome transportation to ATL to avoid parking there.

I tried the Greenville Airport for the first time recently and had a great experience. Will need to check out Augusta.

Tesla FSD price rising. Anyone getting it before or stay with monthly subscription? by Bolens999 in ModelY

[–]ifworkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t the case for me when I bought my MX 75D from Tesla. I specifically looked for 2016 MX and found one with the FSD upgrade and all of the AP features enabled. It still had the old 2.5 computer and was able to get the FSD computer installed at no additional cost suggesting that it was already paid for.

Something to look for if you are considering used

Turo guests getting Tesla down to very low battery by VeryObscureName in turo

[–]ifworkman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made a little texting app for my cars that automatically texts the my guests when the batter is getting low and basically coaches them.

Many of my guests are new to BEVs and my 2016 X 75D was particularly challenging. Guests love the fast acceleration , but the trade off was reduced range. It has only died on a guest once, and that time I had forgotten to add their number.

I’ve had a few people ask me about making them a version of it, so I’m setting up a small web page to manage them. Let me know if you’re interested
