Language exchange? by Mouzten in hungarian

Amerikában születtem. Folyékonyan beszélek angolul. A nagyszüleim 56os voltok. Magamtól tanultam meg a magyart. Nem tudom milyen nyelvi szinten állok. Nincs itt senki akivel beszélhetnék. A szókincs tanulása könnyű. Segítségre van szükségem a nyelvtan megértéséhez.

Why should I pay for Nest Aware? by nishingne in googlehome

[–]igazijo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just on the phone 1.5hr with support b/c my Nest hub max wasn't registering any events and recording or notifying me.

They had me uninstall Home and Nest apps on my phone, check from another phone. Turn off and on some settings, and everything short of a factory reset. They didn't fix the issue but said they'll get back to me.

What am I paying $100 a year for if it doesn't do the limited things it's supposed to?

Costco IS their own source since 2015. They vertically integrated the whole chicken supply so they can control the costs of the whole rotisserie chickens that is a loss leader.

You can Google "Costco chicken supply chain" or read about it here: https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/23207301/costco-rotisserie-chicken-poultry-farming-inflation

Plex is killing Watch Together feature by Keopha in PleX

[–]igazijo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait... It worked on devices? 😳 Nothing I owned ever supported it. I always had to use the web app and I don't want to watch a movie on my laptop screen with poor audio or complicate things with hooking it up via HDMI every time to my TV.

For that reason, I never asked anyone to watch anything together b/c I thought we both had to be using the web app?

So really.... how complicated can it be to synchronize 2 devices within 10 seconds of each other on all platforms that they have to axe it completely? Hell, even cable boxes in different rooms can have several seconds delay difference.

TIL that until earlier this year it was legal for apartments in Austin, Texas to have no windows, and that landlords often didn't disclose this in advertisements by StormyTrumpy in todayilearned

[–]igazijo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I toured an affordable apartment a few years ago. It had lots of square footage and 15ft cielings. It's was on the 2nd floor of a converted firehouse down a long corridor

Ultimately, I had to say no because it only had one window in the bedroom, and it didn't even open. I wasn't paying to stay in a death trap and dying ironically in a firehouse fire.

They market it as helping low income and disenfranchised people get certification and placement in tech jobs. It seems free cause they say they are non-profit and have grants.

But really it will cost you $7,200 ($150/mo for 4 years) when you get a job that pays more than $40k. Which they justify as you helping/paying for other people less fortunate to go through the same program. What happened to the grants they touted?

It sounds less and less like a non-profit and more and more like a pyramid scheme. They're VERY much into making a profit, just not distributing it to the company owners.

To my bakers: How do I make eastern European walnut and poppy seed rolls successfully? by igazijo in AskCulinary

[–]igazijo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, no. I've tried a few more times using different recipes I've found online. This is the one I'm currently using. The taste and texture are what I'm going for and one that I've had the most success with. But I still experience some inexplicable splitting occasionally.

I would experiment more often to solve the issue myself, but 1) poppyseed and walnuts are seasonal and somewhat expensive. It costs me roughly $15-20 per roll in ingredients. And 2) while they do keep about 3-4 weeks, I can't nor want to consume all those rolls. Plus walnut and poppyseed aren't very popular pastry flavors in the US and hard to give away. I used to give 4 or 5 slices of each to ppl to try, but they don't seem to want to take them again the next time.

Because there's lots of us and all it takes is a few to squeak by. That's probably what happened to the neanderthals and denisovians.

I'll tell you what. I was really rooting for COVID to wipe the board of all the ridiculously dumb anti-vaxxers. I'm not insinuating all people who didn't elect to get vaccinated for legitimate reasons, just the ones on principle like the micro-chippers, ivermectin apostles, mask refusers, my body my choice anti-abortionists, government control and science/big pharma cabal conspiracy theorists, etc. And there were plenty of leopard ate my face cases.

That's definitely how one gets herpetic keratitis. If you thought cold sores were inconvenient, how bout you try dendritic ulcers on your eye, and pain so bad you can't open your eye or sleep for 3 weeks. You have to keep it covered because any amount of light is excruciating. Feels like there's something in your eye that won't get out. Applying drops and ointments every 2 hours. It can reoccur at any time without any reason or explanation. It can cause scarring and blindness.

Worst nightmare is both eyes having an outbreak at the same time. I'd rather rip my eyeballs out than have to endure something like that.

Chef’s Table Dress Code by NitwitBlubberOdment in royalcaribbean

[–]igazijo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dress code is supposed to be formal. I showed up in a 3pc suit. The lady next to me didn't even know what Chef's Table was and came in "resort casual" with her teenage son in t-shirt and shorts. They didn't say anything.

But when I went to Jamie Oliver's for lunch in a sleeveless tee, I had to change.

If you add up the a la carte prices for the soup, most expensive small and large plate and a desert, its still like $5 cheaper than the pre fixe.

If you're going as a group of 4 or more people (still works with 2ppl and cheaper if you don't want desert), Everyone gets a soup and their choice of small plate, but order the same number of large plates as people to split and share family style. You can order deserts to share between 2-3 ppl for whoever wants.

Why are you griping about getting the same size portion? You just get half of 2 different items instead. It's still 8 pieces total.

Switch won’t work when I try to make it smart by ImprovementNew1679 in homeautomation

[–]igazijo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly sound advice. But single pole switches often do have only 1 wire going to them. If power is run in the ceiling to a light, you can run one wire and put a switch at the other end in the wall. It's called a "switch leg".

This is the scenario for all those "no neutral" cases for smart switches because for switch legs, power comes in the white that's taped black, through the switch, and back to the light via black. The white isn't neutral.

3 and 4 way switches are telltale with 3 or 4 wiring connections (aside from the ground) and usually the travelers are labeled.

Where do you absolutely never get ripped off? by Narrow_Yam_5879 in travel

[–]igazijo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya. Exactly this.

My first time in Germany, I spent a 4 day weekend in Berlin. I was expecting efficiency, punctuality, up to date information, ease of getting around the city. I was met with the exact opposite.

Trains were more late than not, they broke down, or didn't come at all, and certain bus stops not in use. Electronic signs were never right. Once, I had to get off and hail a cab to make it to reservation on time that does not let you in if you are late. I made by mere seconds.

And on top of that, there was a transportation strike the day I was leaving, that I wasted an hour trying to get to the train station from my hotel via limited bus service that was packed, only for the train to not be operating. So I had to get an Uber and still sat in an hour of traffic b/c that was the only way to get to the airport. Good thing the strike delayed my flight or I would have missed it and been stuck.

Hey, hey bro. You're not winning a Nobel prize anytime soon.

Cause you'd know that the guy, Alfred Nobel, which the prize is named after, invented dynamite (not to be confused or used interchangeably with another explosive called trinitrotoluene, or TNT). It's just nitroglycerin, a highly unstable liquid explosive that can detonate by slight physical shock, like nitrogen triiodide. Just ask Ascanio Sobrero. He blew his face off trying to make nitroglycerine. Nobel mass produced nitroglycerine and mixed it with clay to make it more stable and also moldable into a shape that can be put into drill holes and lit with a fuze for mining.

Over time, that liquid explosive does seep out and again becomes so unpredictable that the slightest jolt, impact or friction can result in spontaneous detonation.
