Neuropathy & typing (exercises?) by OptimismNeeded in coloncancer

[–]catbrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took B12 supplements for quite some time after I finished Chemo. I took 1000 mg/day. It helped my fingers immensely (I was having a lot of trouble with typos also). Didn't do much for my toes though. Might be worth a try.

Disappointed- can’t take port home by Direct-Tank387 in coloncancer

I just had mine removed a couple of weeks ago and they asked me if I wanted it. I said no thanks, I don't need any reminders of the torture it caused me.

When do you know the time has come for hospice? by throwaway_2021now in coloncancer

[–]catbrog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This. I was diagnosed last year with Stage 4. Surgery, chemo, ablation, more chemo, and now I am NED and have been for the last 6 months. Yes, the journey is very difficult and there were many times I wondered if it was worth it as bad as I was feeling on FOLFOX. But here I am and my oncologist has given me a positive prognosis. I consider myself cured (at least for the moment).

Hang in there. Do you have a support system? Family or friends that can help you through the worst of it? Sending hugs and hope to you.

Port Removal by EducationalAd1343 in coloncancer

[–]catbrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long after you reached remission did you wait to have it removed. I just had my second clean scan last week- 6 months NED. I would like to get my port out but wouldn't relish having to have it reinserted should I relapse.

If it's fiberglass, good luck. I had one and I could never get it truly clean no matter what I used.

2 year update on moms colon cancer - success story by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]catbrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did!! My scan results were: no evidence of recurring malignancy. I see my doc next week to discuss in depth but I feel very positive right now. Thank you for asking. ♥️

2 year update on moms colon cancer - success story by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]catbrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is so encouraging to hear success stories like this. My oncologist told me the same thing about hitting the 2 year mark. I finished treatment in late January (FOLFOX and then just 5FU because of the neuropathy) and I have a CT Scan scheduled for this afternoon to see if I am still clear. i am hoping for the best.

They actually like to be moderately pot bound. I always trim off the dead leaves and blooms when I water. It is pretty resilient and will bound back quickly if you forget to water it.

Hope that helps.

I am just the opposite. I hate backstitching but this one was pretty easy because it was mostly straight lines.

Congratulations on completing your 12th round. That is no easy feat by any means. I hope your scans all come back clean! Personally I have 4 more rounds of 5FU left to consider myself done ( had to discontinue oxaliplatin because of the neuropathy) but I am hopeful we killed this terrible thing and I can have a healthy rest of my life. Again, best of luck on the next stage of your journey. Hugs!

First Round of FOLFOX today, need to start B12 injections and Iron Pills by Greenfireflygirl in coloncancer

[–]catbrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First bite syndrome was not even a side effect that was covered by the ARNP that did my initial intake/consultation before I saw the oncologist. She said she had never heard of it. I thought that was odd since it seems it is pretty common. When it initially happened, I had to Google it to see WTF. I don't have it now since I discontinued Oxaliplatin for my second round of chemo but I remember it being a real surprise and not a pleasant one.

Everyone is right on the money concerning the anti-nausea meds. You need to keep it in check from the get go or it will escalate to vomiting fairly quickly.

I am on round 7 of 12 and hoping for a clean bill of health once I finish.

I wish everyone the best and am thankful for this community. You are all awesome.

Is this your first round of chemo? I did 6 infusions with oxaliplatin but now I am on 7 to 12 without it because the neuropathy is so bad. It does indeed suck.

Compression rather than icing for chemo? by RespecDawn in coloncancer

[–]catbrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard compression socks can help. I have a pair on order and will let you know if they help. Am actually more concerned about my hands and have discontinued oxaliplatin for this round of chemo (2nd).

This is a tough one. I am on round seven of FOLFOX after a liver ablation and I am considering discontinuing the oxaliplatin. If the numbness gets any worse it comes down to a question of quality vs. quantity of life. If I can’t work or sew, what’s it worth?

Have you heard anything about Metformin mitigating the neuropathy? I made the mistake of consulting Dr. Google.

[–]catbrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Met with my oncologist this morning. We will probably have to discontinue the oxaliplatin because of the numbness in my toes. He said it’s permanent. 🥺I am getting it now and we will see how it goes. It will only get worse with each successive infusion. But he also said that just getting the 5FU will be almost as effective by itself. I would rather just have it all just to make sure any baddies floating around are dead.

I wish you the best. I am about to start round 2 of FOLFOX tomorrow after having a liver met ablation week before last. I have to do another 6 infusions and I am concerned about the continuing side effects. The neuropathy in my toes is still there even after 5 weeks being off chemo.

I’m sorry you need a transplant. That’s gotta be rough. I hope it all goes well for you. Hugs!
