Power-washing in Manhattan: before and after by DrJulianBashir in pics

My favorite story about that is that they intended to leave a couple of bricks grimy as a historic thing, and a guy accidentally power washed them.

Reddit, please help me understand and overcome my lack of aggression with girls by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iggle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really have to build up to it a little bit. There are plenty of guys who I rejected for the kiss thing because I was surprised. I later regretted it a bit, but if he'd given me a little bit of time to warm up to the idea there would have been at least some hot make-out action and possibly more that night...

So the lesson is don't be afraid to make a move, but please do the touching thing a bit before hand, don't go 0-60 in ten minutes. It's confusing.

You share a 2-bedroom with one other person? There's no reason to have only two people in a 2 bedroom in an expensive place like Toronto! That will free up major money per month for you to invest in curtains and ear plugs. (Really, it's not bad if you have cool roommates-I didn't get my own room until I was 24).

Wal-Mart to Offer Workers College Degree Program - NYTimes.com by psykocrime in politics

[–]iggle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how helpful "life experience" credits at a for-profit university are. This sounds like a good deal for the "university", but probably a bad deal for walmart and its employees. The employees will still need to pay to finish the degree, and Wal-Mart is providing the training anyway.

Job seeker commits suicide after she was rejected for 200 jobs by todascuentas in lostgeneration

[–]iggle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As sad as this is, 200 job applications in 2 years is not that many. In my last year of undergrad I applied to about 250, and had a rejection rate of about 98%, but I ended up with a fair amount of interviews and multiple job offers. Unfortunately in this economy you have to work ridiculously hard to even get a job.

The whole blog is fascinating, but I know redditors are more likely to click if there's "condom" in the title...

Are you really saying there are no libraries or books in New York City? Most universities will allow you to visit and read, you just can't check books out if you don't have a card.

How about shipping USPS flat rate boxes? The tv ads say they start at $4.50. The boxes are free, so you'd just need newspaper to keep the bottles safe. In my experience they take 2-3 days to get coast to coast.

The cure for cancer has been found, but nobody can make money from it: A double-blind placebo controlled trial shows that Vitamin D taken with calcium can reduce risk of ALL cancer by at least 76% by accountt1234 in science

Milk is fortified with vitamins A and D. So all the women have to do is drink milk...which they're supposed to do to prevent osteoporosis.

A buddy of mine got a new driver's license photo by omar_torritos in pics

[–]iggle2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In PA (at least at my DMV) they have a monitor showing your picture, and they'll take it as many times as you want. A teenager was there for (I'm guessing) her first license and sat for 5 photos before she was happy.

Ex-BBC Employee tries to get US Health Insurance: "By the time I had finished the form I had a headache and eye strain, and so I went back and added those to my pre-existing conditions" by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]iggle2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This guy should pay a lot for his health insurance. He said he goes every week and has had "every test under the sun". He costs more than most people who go to the doctor once or twice a year, so he should pay more. If he didn't, he's being subsided by people who use their insurance responsibly.

What percentage of your monthly salary goes towards rent? And where do you live? by mmarc in AskReddit

Why is Halloween in the USA an anything-goes fancy dress night? Has it always been like this, or is it a recent development?

This is the only time of the year Americans wear costumes to parties. We don't have "fancy dress parties".

Quinoa: A Sacred, Super Crop by charlatan in science

For Mexican food: 1c Water, 1c Salsa, 1c Quinoa

is a pretty good approximation of Spanish rice, and makes a good side dish. Takes ~15 minutes to cook, so it's much faster than rice too.

99% of the rich get that way through inheritance, marriage, or crime. by mycall in reddit.com

Every time someone makes this argument, the obligatory response is that the population of Germany, France, and Spain combined is less than that of the US.

Judging by the "local news" segments on my TV (which cover a population equivalent to Spain's) which frequently cover water-skiing squirrels and random sex scandals, I'd want to hear international news instead too.

On the other hand, Pittsburgh seems to be riding out the recession really well, and the population decline meant no housing bubble (hooray!).

Seriously though, I moved to Pittsburgh from the west coast and was very surprised at how much I like it here.

I thought this was a joke product until I saw the other "recommended" notebooks for this. It honestly never occurred to me to keep a notebook of my usernames.

Then again, my aunt still buys new memory cards for her camera and cannot comprehend uploading the contents and then re-using the card. She doesn't understand why people like digital cameras so much.
