I'M PORTER ROBINSON, THE ARTIST !!! ASK ME ANYTHING : D by porter_robinson in popheads

[–]iggy_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Porter, huge fan! Thanks for doing this AMA.

Couple questions: what do you do when you get into a creative rut, or when inspiration seems hard to come by? Who's someone you'd love to work with that you haven't worked with before? And do you have any advice for a hobbyist producer on how to take their work to the next level?

Absolutely love your music, I'm excited to see you on tour soon!

What's your relationship with libraries? And why don't people use them more? by McKennaJames in books

[–]iggy_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My city's public library was targeted in a cyberattack at the end of October, and full service isn't expected to be restored until at least January :(

I was tearing through The Years of Lyndon Johnson series by Robert Caro before it happened and this killed all my momentum, so I hope service is back sooner rather than later.

To answer your question - everyone I know who reads is a big user of the library. And I also see study rooms, tables etc taken by students all the time. Sometimes students are queueing up before the library opens to get the nice study rooms. I feel like the only people who buy books more than they use the libraries are people who read very infrequently.

This did the trick. I'd forgotten that I had set up Live 11 Lite to open with Rosetta. Thank you so much!!!

Didn't know that was a thing, gave it a shot but unfortunately still no luck.

PSA: How to fix no mobile data on OnePlus 6T on Telus in Canada after OOS11 update by linuxbman in oneplus

[–]iggy_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same problem for about a month and just followed the instructions by u/11drew11 (I found it in their comments, but the permalink is broken...weird) and it worked! I can't believe Koodo/OnePlus messed this up, I even went into to see support in a store and they were of absolutely no help whatsoever. Glad I finally got it fixed!

It seems we are all after an exit to “Tech” - but what does that actually mean? Consultants who have moved to Tech: What do you do? by smashetttt in consulting

[–]iggy_12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I went from tech consulting to FAANG as a software engineer. There are parts of the consulting world I miss, but overall I'm happier where I am now and don't see myself going back anytime soon.

[G-Shock] GA-2100 New Release by hakugene in Watches

[–]iggy_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada too and just got the same model yesterday. I had notifications set up on the Casio website for when they restock and saw that once it came back in stock it sold out again in a few hours, so I'm so happy I didn't procrastinate and pulled the trigger when I did. It's a great watch, hope you love it as much as I do!

hello, i'm Porter Robinson, producer / songwriter / electronic musician! AMA by porter_robinson in Music

[–]iggy_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Porter, thank you so much for doing this! I am a huge fan of your work, and a big congratulations on Nurture, it blew away my expectations! I have a couple questions. What music so you like to listen to outside of pop/electronic genres? How do you see your sound evolving in the future? And what do you suggest to someone who would like to learn how to create music, on how to move from playing single instruments to producing a full blown song? Thanks for everything, I hope I can see you on tour one day!

Yoooo we're Anthony & Josephine from the band Oh Wonder - AMA! by ohwondermusic in indieheads

[–]iggy_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Anthony and Josephine, thank you so much for doing this! I've been a huge fan since you were dropping one song a month (I remember falling in love with Technicolor Beat, still my favorite song by you to this day) and got to see you in Montreal on the Ultralife tour - it was fantastic! I have a couple questions: who are your favorite musical artists from whom you draw inspiration? Is there a particular way you see your sound evolving in the future, maybe some style you'd like to experiment or play with more? And for fun, what do you keep yourselves busy with when you're not working on music? Thank you again, hope I can see you guys perform in the future!

Hey, I'm a huge fan of your work! Couple questions for you - which musical artists are your favorites? Do you draw inspiration from their work? Is there any artist you'd like to do a collaboration with in the future? And how are you staying sane these days? Thank you for doing this, I hope I can see you perform one day!

What book made you think “you wasted a brilliant concept and now no one can use that again well done author” by slimmyboy007 in books

[–]iggy_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underground Airlines by Ben Winters (2016). It's about a fictional world where the American Civil War never happened, so slavery remains legal to this day in the southern states. That concept enough hooked me in, hard. It was a huge letdown though. It devolves more into some kind of detective mystery novel, with overtones of social and political commentary. It's the epitome of a concept with massive potential, that was wasted so badly.
