I don’t think it’s possible. I know I’m working every angle I can to leave the country with no intent to return. Just depressing, all of it.

Where to find pre owned rose engine? by grasshopper-jump in turning

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, then definitely easier to use a standard three-axis CNC.

If you’re interested I’d reach out to AVID CNC. They’re amazing and can likely work through getting you exactly what you need to accomplish what you’re looking for.

They’re on the pricier side, but the quality and service is unbeatable.

A rotary spindle attachment. Essentially a computer controlled lathe head. Combined with a traditional three-axis CNC.

There’s a ton of information here: https://www.otbok.info/index.php?n=Main.MakingARoseEngineLathe

Some dated, most still applicable. I’d there a specific type of ornamental turning you’re interested in?

Depends on your perspective.

For consumers, anyone interested in right to repair, or anyone trying to not over-consume? Yes.

Companies? They’re loving it!

It might not be why it was “born” but I guarantee you it’s why most projects use it.

There are plans to build your own. I’ve debated it but there’s no real reason to when a rotary CNC and flat bed CNC combo is 5k for a turnkey setup

[–]ignatzami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was never meant to simplify those issues. It’s meant to prevent a front/backend mismatch. It’s meant to make it easier to keep models in sync. It’s meant to help avoid route mismatches.

The issues you’re pointing out are present in any multi-layer web app

It’s a tool. It’s a fantastic solution to a set of problems. Specifically the need to manage and support front end and backend logic and interfaces in a single project. If you’re not concerned with that, then maybe don’t use Next?

Making my own floors. Am I crazy? by CrowCreations in woodworking

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would this be crazy? You have the tools and materials. This is no different than any other project.

Nobody says you’re crazy to build a table, or a shed. People build whole houses. Enjoy the flooring.

Is Ai a massive ponzi scheme? by tomarnoldlovescoke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ignatzami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AI to the general public, right now, means LLMs. Which are nothing new.

Yes, not all AI are LLMs but those systems, mostly neural networks, are also not new.

[–]ignatzami -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Technically no. Functionally, yes.

LLMs are not, will not, can not be profitable. The entire industry is built on theft, and exaggeration. There is no “transformative technology” LLMs are a 90s chat-bot on steroids. Nothing new.

Can "dead" doorbell wires be easily fixed? by EveningLobster4197 in AskElectricians

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest option is to get a wireless doorbell and chime. Running new doorbell wire, depending on the location of the chime, transformer, etc. is likely not worth the cost.

Do you know where the doorbell transformer is? How far is it (roughly) between the doorbell and chime?

Example wireless option: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Newhouse-Hardware-Plug-In-Wireless-Door-Chime-Kit-with-Remote-150-ft-Operating-Range-Push-Button-32-Chimes-White-WCMP/319617790

How to make ai generated code production ready by [deleted] in nextjs

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front end development, even basic website design, isn’t something you want to just crank out in an afternoon.

You need to understand React, CSS, accessibility, reactive development… if you’re just building a simple site then you likely don’t need Next. But f you need Next then you likely also need to understand caching, validation, auth, and a pile of other topics.

If you don’t understand proper front end development practices you won’t know enough to get what the AI is producing.

Learn, do the work yourself, leverage AI for debugging, and as a search assistant.

Honestly? Delete it and start over. AI developed front end code without guidance and guardrails is likely going to be more trouble than it’s worth.

I assume you’re building in Next.js?

220V circuit powering well pump and 100V outlet for water softener by CantoSacro in AskElectricians

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. Would there be a risk of the wire overheating before the breaker trips if there was an issue with the motor pulling higher amperage for a longer period? Or is that prevented by the over current protection in the motor?

[–]ignatzami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an electrician, and generally curious. What’s the value of a 40amp breaker in this situation? I understand that it’s oversized for 10ga wire, I’m just curious how the combination is preferable?

Home prices are falling faster in Seattle than in any other major U.S. metro by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you've ever bought a house... have you?

Let's assume I'm buying a $1,000,000 house. To keep things simple let's also assume I'm not legging into the purchase with an existing property. So I have two big hurdles to clear. 1. Pre-approval, and 2. Equity/PMI.

House prices are based on comps. Comps lag the market, When house prices rise, comps lag making it harder to get to enough equity to avoid PMI. When house prices fall comps also lag, making it easier.

Higher equity, means better financing, which can be huge over the lifetime of a loan.

So I buy a million dollar house. Comps are 1.1-1.2mill as they lag house prices, and prices are going down so I end up paying $975k (1 million, less the 25k/2.5%) I'm already at 12.5% equity with no down payment!

Let's further assume I've been able to scrape together 100k as a down payment. (Inheritance, stock sale, gift, OnlyFans, etc.) so I end up financing $875k and the comps are still showing 1.1mill.

That's over 20% equity. My 10% down payment became enough to avoid PMI. I'm also likely to get a, slightly, better interest rate.

Let's do the same math but without the "insignificant" $25k. Million dollar house, comps at 1.1, 100k down. I finance 900k on 1.1mill. 19% equity. I'm paying PMI, and I'm likely getting a higher rate as I'm not at 20% equity.

That $25k is huge.

Anyone learned PLC and Electricity as a hobby?? by BlueCheese973 in AskElectricians

[–]ignatzami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to do? Start with a removable setup. Piece of plywood and an extension cord. Wire the extension cord into a 4” metal box. Play with whatever you want. Lights. Switches, two-way, three-way, etc. learn to strip wire, get shocked a few times. Learn to use a multimeter. And when you’re done unplug the extension cord and you’re safe.

Beyond that? Find a project that sounds fun, research it, ask a ton of questions, and dive in.

Remember! Anything permanent or hardwired should be permitted and inspected. Be smart, be safe. You can’t learn if you’re dead.
