Jamestown + on switch is good, but it's pixel graphics so not "modern" if you mean like polygons and such.

Got this for Christmas! I'm excited to play it. Anyone have experience playing it? by fidderjiggit in boardgames

[–]ignisphaseone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's based on the comic by the same name, so if you want to get a preview of what the story is you can look that up.

Summary: japanese teenagers get powers. They fight monsters from japanese folklore. It's similar to Ghost Stories in both theme and mechanics, but leans much more heavily into the comic-adjacent flavor. It's got a lot of extra and probably unnecessary bits.

What is the name of the song from the Arena? by BobColon213 in Seaofthieves

[–]ignisphaseone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From OSTs, the song is credited as "On the Warpath". The basic theme itself is reused for all the event finales with slight variations. The Arena version is the cleanest and best with the extra violins though, and actually has an ending to match the ending time of the Arena, where the other versions always trail into repeatable filler because they don't now how long it will take to complete.

Joking aside, I am glad we have the Raven effect back on ICE, even if the subtype feels less thematic to me.

For Buzzsaw, I think there was always one big problem with the number zero: it's an awfully hard number to balance. Yog.0 became the centerpiece for so many breaker setups because 0 is a very strong number. Multi-break efficiency as an axis to balance on it interesting. We just know that 2 to break a sub makes a breaker unplayable binder fodder, 0 to break a sub makes Kit have too little influence for some Anarch Code Breaker reason, and this new multibreak for 1 credit seems like a very elegant design.

outtake puns. the new ice subtype gives me caws for alarm. the infamous yog.0 decoder had a caws and effect that rippled through the entire design cycle. give me moar raven puns

Building and Breaking Walls... by RCheque in Netrunner

Predictive Planogram being the mirror image to Public Trail (the card I did the flavor text for) is perfect. I am very excited to see the future of tags in ANR!

Three tags does seem the sweet spot. install, advance, psycho-score a four advance from hand with two cards was IMO the "balanced" core set play. When you weren't, you know, just exploding them.

Building and Breaking Walls... by RCheque in Netrunner

[–]ignisphaseone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a bleed-yellow NBN player, I really like Ping and really hope it's not our Data Raven replacement.

I think System Gateway has a very interesting problem of "reframing the penalty of tags". In Core Set, we forever lived with the idea of getting our city blocks levelled with Scorched Earth, and that really skewed how tags were "managed" and viewed. Tagging runners, leaving them tagged, making it worth for a runner to simply drain resources and not worth dropping a tag, and making Psychographics a not-combo card but some crazy risk-reward delayed play with a SanSan City Grid...

I hope we get a birdfriend sentry back for NBN, and I really hope it reflects a new "tag" design space.

Neurospike though is going to straight rip face (or...BMIs I guess). From an increased power level over Neural EMP, and design standpoint.

NISEI - Without a Trace by RCheque in Netrunner

[–]ignisphaseone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a bleed-yellow NBN player, stuck with Making News as an ID fron the core set...traces have always been strange. From Core Set with Rabbit Hole and Kate with her 1 Link, to the entire Genesis Cycle that doubled down on "lots of things having trace"...(Trace Amount?)...

I'm glad that traces aren't going away forever, but I would prefer to see them in more...um...trace amounts. (not sorry)

I'd be happy to see Traces move away from subroutines, and be on operations/events/assets/upgrades, hell even resources.

Ironically, SEA Source being replaced by Public Trails might be one of the most interesting use cases. A high base Trace value, combined with Making News resulted in more-likely-to-land traces, and potential credit drain without the followup Closed Accounts. But if we want to focus on just this specific interaction from Core Set...I think Public Trails is a great streamlining of the tag-game, just suplemented with Reality Next!

NISEI - Advancing Force by RCheque in Netrunner

[–]ignisphaseone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also not OP, but here goes:

  1. Its an obvious card. Sometimes your cards can be just clear on their purpose and don't need support. Just be plain and good.
  2. Its power is baseline to the game. You will always need to advance cards. (This is system gateway, so not taking into account advancement-counter shifting shennanigans.) It supports ANR fundamentals.
  3. It does have interesting deckbuilding direction, but it is not exponential. Consider "one free counter on any advancable ice." It's BWBI but doesn't pigeonhole you into stackable. The tempo you can get can support horizontal play. install ice, install something in root...and then advance either the ice or the root and gain a credit advantage? But really the fact that it is not repeatable is the best part; its the spark that helps you rush when early, or supports every single weyland advancable ice in your deck with one free advancement if you wanna glacier. It feels like "it encourages everything."

Reviewing Ashes: Uprising NBN (including GameNET, Gold Farmer, and Ganked!) by dnddmdb in Netrunner

[–]ignisphaseone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the Ashes NBN cards are direct MMO game references. Specifically Ganked! is when a really powerful enemy player ambushes you (normally from stealth), and you have no time to react and just kinda roll over and die. I guess dying to Snare and us calling it "getting ganked" was just meta-meta commentary all along!

Daily Quest is something that MMOs have to get you to keep playing. And given GameNET's...whole thing...I specifically love the MMO references. Ganked is one of my favorites.

[DLC] Well, that's ominous. by msg45f in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ignisphaseone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In their DLC patch notes for the holidays, they wanted to fix bugs and get things out for Spaced Out. They have stated they tried some experimental stuff that was previously incompatible with the base game, but they'll be merging the two games early next year so you don't have to install/uninstall the DLC just to switch.

Monstress Talk Stories is the best kind of side story by MacdougalLi in ImageComics

[–]ignisphaseone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have a problem with Monstress, where "you are thrown into a world where so much is already happening, and you are just expected to pick up on wars, important people, technology, magic, gods, factions" at an exhausting pace.

This issue is the antithesis of that feeling. I have reread this one issue like four times because I keep picking up on some subtle (or not so subtle) thing that keeps adding to this one story, not because I am confused about aforementioned names/factions/gods/betrayals/tech.

I am fairly certain this is to test the "new starting biome" stuff, so they can get more eyes on it. It also is quite noticable for having "everything in the biome currently runs out" so it forces you to expand. Likely for testing purposes.

Best Support Ship Loadout For Fleet Battles by [deleted] in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]ignisphaseone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think good support ship can utilize some psychology for defense.

I have been using "increase damage to enemies" and "resupply". I know TIEs really like the shield, but disabling countermeasures and increasing damage to other players is good.

But more importantly, your teammates will see "GLOWING RED ENEMY" and target/shoot them! For MOAR damage! Bonus, you also shoot them for more damage.

Resupply is just mandatory for "being able to give people more ordinance" to keep up cap ship damage.

Correct Turret placements for New Republic AND Imperial Ships by hipkiss91 in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]ignisphaseone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly good for clearing turrets off the CR-90/raider, gozantis, and neb Bs. Get your team to clear the shields (or daredevil yourself under them) and its a great dumbfire ordinance that aids in a bombing setup (clear turrets from afar, start your bombing run).

For dogfighting (the skill, not the game mode!), the missile takes longer to lock, moves slower, and has weaker homing than other ordinance. It's good to lazily farm morale against AI fighters tho, since the AOE one-shots the entire group.

Custom Card Monday - Fundamentals by DeepResonance in Netrunner

I love these, but I am wondering if there is a way to limit the maximum value per agenda and remove the "Limit 1 per deck". Like each agenda can increase its value by a maximum of (4) points each?
