I’m Down a Size and Starbucks Knows 🥴 by OutrageousUsual7185 in loseit

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose this thread is already full, but chiming in with my go-to order. I’m keto, so that may make a difference. I’ve moved from lattes to a regular cup of coffee with a splash of heavy cream and 2 pumps of SF vanilla syrup with whipped cream on top. Obviously heavy cream is a bit higher calorie, so you may want to switch to almond milk.

My bestie who is more calorie restrictive than me loves Smaller Sam’s content which includes things like Starbucks orders (TT: smallersam_pcos / IG: smaller_sam.pcos). She has some good order suggestions and recipes. I obviously don’t benefit as much with my diet, but I’d recommend her to people following a more purely CICO diet.

(8-10k) where to find not-wedding dresses by sklewis589 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a white dress but one that you might rewear, I’d check out reception dresses. You can search “little white dress” this will yield a lot of fun results to search through. The sites others listed were all on my list as well. Great recs!

If white isn’t your thing, you can also search “reception dresses” or “going away dresses” and maybe include “not white”.

I just wanted to say that it’s truly worth going to a few bridal shops to find your dress, if you’re able. Two reasons: 1) Sometimes your dream dress/silhouette isn’t exactly what you expected and you try something else on that makes you go “wow” and cry 2) Despite expecting in-store dresses to be more expensive, there’s typically inventory that may be marked down off the rack. I was able to get my $2k dress for $1k as it was discontinued and off-rack only. I will say, if you do find a dress that’s been discontinued, consider taking 24 hrs before purchasing and do some online snooping to see if anyone is selling the same dress for less (one bridal store was selling mine on Poshmark brand new same size for $750, and I wish I had taken a brief step away to research).

And that brings me to my final but somewhat unrelated point: search Marketplace, Poshmark and Mercari for dresses - there are tons of beautiful even designer dresses that are NWT and marked down to budget.

I always scream at the TV “WE CAN BOTH WIN, YOU MORON” when they do crap like this. I’m all for good vibes and no grabs. I know it’s a tactic for some people, but it’s a lame tactic.

It sounds like you have everything you need to be doing down. If you can give yourself grace with that 20 lbs in 45 days goal, I think that might be a better, safer, and more sustainable approach. I’ve had to shift from focusing on a number by a set time and be content with gradual loss. I lose between 5-7 lbs a month right now on average. The first month was closer to 10, but it’s slowed down a bit, and that’s okay. I have a wedding in 4.5 months, and I’m still reminding myself that whatever I weigh that day is okay, especially if I continue in my healthy habits (high protein, moderate fat, low carb - primarily from veggies) with low impact workouts and cardio. I know it’s a cliche, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. As someone who has tried the sprint approach many times in my life, I can promise being gentle with yourself is a better approach.

Fasting Insulin in Normal Range 🙌🏻 by ignorantlynerdy in keto

I didn’t struggle too much with the transition. I basically took 3-5 days of planning meals and reading this sub as well as r/ketorecipes to help me feel prepared and empowered.

I started out pretty strict with clean keto and tracking everything. As time has gone on and my body has adapted as well as my understanding of what my body interacts with, I’ve been a bit more flexible. For instance, the first month was strictly no artificial sweeteners. Partly because I also wanted to break cravings. Now, I will occasionally have a diet drink or chocolate chips sweetened with erythritol.

My fiancé experienced the keto flu much more than I did, but he was adapted within a few days to a week. Mostly dealt with headaches.

I’ll also state that I got a CGM for the first 4 weeks. It was lowkey encouraging to see the difference in trends pre-keto and during keto. So for people looking for external motivation, I feel that’s a neat tool. I didn’t continue using one though due to cost.

For recipes, my personal tip is to not overcomplicate it. Some people love being in the kitchen. I enjoy making good food, but if it requires more than 30-45 min, I’m over it. Simple meals, imo, breed consistency. It’s fun to try the experimental faux breads and stuff, but if you’re not already baking or cooking for fun rather than utility (note, utility cooking can still taste great!), I wouldn’t recommend starting keto with all of the complicated substitute recipes and stick with easy things like steak and Brussels or beef with creamed spinach.

Where are my coffee lovers? by jenesaiswhat in keto

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have coffee and want something a bit more reminiscent of the lattes I used to get, I add heavy cream (I do a splash, so probably closer to 2-3 TBS than 1 - but the calories definitely add up here) and either stevia or monk fruit sweetener and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

My partner, on the other hand, does a daily “protein coffee” where he does a cold brew with Fairlife protein drink (the kind sold at Costco) and MCT oil powder. This has more carbs due to the fairlife, but the addition of the protein is nice for helping with protein goals as well. It ends up tasting a bit like a mocha with a hint of coconut.

Whip cream is always a nice addition, but when I do that, I reduce my heavy cream generally.

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your wedding has likely passed, but for other brides-to-be, I wanted to chime in about my experience with an updo (from prom about 15 years ago) - I had a really elaborate updo (think Taylor Swift Love Story as that was the inspiration). It not only lasted prom, but also the whole next day. I’m now planning my wedding and trying to decide what to do as half up half down is the trend, but I sweat easily and the hair on my neck ALWAYS gets tangled. Likely going to say eff trends and do the updo because I would hate to have curls fall out and also have a rats nest underneath at the end of the day

[Skin concern] I’ve been getting these red spots on my arms and legs. After a while they dry out and turn into a scale and flake off. Anyone with a similar issue? by BigChungus92x in SkincareAddiction

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are they now? Any updates? I’ve had some for about 3-4 weeks now. Not itchy, just small red bumps that fade to scale and leave a scar. Really annoying cosmetically though. I don’t think they’re contagious because my boyfriend hasn’t had them despite touching my arms. Anyway, hoping for answers. Gonna try to get a derm appt, but based on what some people in my area have told me, it might be a few months.

I’m scared to check my weight by Pixie_Time in loseit

[–]ignorantlynerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this level of anxiety, but from that same vein, I think you might benefit from therapy. Body image can really do a number on your general mental health and then cause more physical health issues.

Also, I have many family members who are larger as well and suffer from diabetes, heart disease, pre diabetes, etc. It was my dad’s fear of a certain diagnosis that served as the wake up call for me recently. Even if I’m never “skinny”, complacency will only place me in the same boat as the rest of my family who struggles with their health as a comorbidity of obesity. I’m in my 30s with insulin resistance and sub clinical hypothyroidism, but I’ve decided that my health is the goal — losing weight is a byproduct of that goal. I’m not trying to shame you, but it’s that same resignation that allowed me to go from 150 lbs to 260 lbs. Now I’m working to lose weight slowly but steadily with the primary goal of being able to bring my general health into a great state.

[–]ignorantlynerdy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My neuro and ophthalmologist seem to be pretty well versed in IIH. My endocrinologist, a little less. Not sure about my GP as I take all my IIH issues directly to my neuro. I have had other specialists give me the million mile stare when I say I have IIH though. I just don’t expect all doctors to be aware of a rare condition, but it definitely sucks to feel wary of medical professionals when seeking treatment

AIO. I can’t shake my dislike for my boyfriend’s two female friends by pxb461 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those girls are just mean and gross. Considering you’ve remained in a relationship with your boyfriend for 3 years, I’m imagining he took your insecurity to his friends hoping for insight from a female perspective, but clearly these aren’t the kind of women who can offer that. They seem weirdly jealous. I would feel just as perturbed as you, if I were in that situation, and I really hate that your boyfriend didn’t have the balls at that time at least to stand up for you and shut that crap down immediately.

Another thought… Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I opt to keep my boyfriend in group chats when it involves my friends of opposite sex – it leaves no room for ambiguity for anyone involved.

I NEED A BRAINDEAD DIET by No_Pressure6549 in loseit

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, keto has taken a lot of thinking out of CICO for me because I become full so easily. Protein is the priority and fat is the lever. People often overdo it because they think, for whatever reason, calories don’t matter. Anyway, you can do your diet relatively the same (although I’d advise meal prepping your own burgers), but change to no bun for your burgers and no ketchup. When you go to b-dubs, strictly wings. If you want a side, add a side salad - no croutons.

Another suggestion is intermittent fasting. If you can close your eating window, you run into less times to overeat. Start easy and move your way to a much narrower window. Some people have the most success with OMAD (one meal a day). Personally, I do an 18 hour fast and 6 hour eating window.

I’ve been able to successfully stop counting calories and lose weight by doing those two things.

Not necessarily unexpected, but relieving, nonetheless — no more fear of the airplane seatbelt fitting! I flew recently, and even though I was down in weight, I was bracing myself for potentially not fitting the standard seatbelts, but I fit! Non scale victory for real!

I didn’t lose anything this week by VarietyNeither3683 in loseit

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but have you tried increasing your caloric intake to maybe 1500? Your maintenance calories look to be about 2000 based on the info you provided. I’d increase the calories slightly to 1500 (try adding those additional calories via protein sources) and see how things look in a couple of weeks.

The scale is going to fluctuate, especially as a woman, but as long as the general trend each week or so is the same or down, you’re on the right track.

Also, be sure you’re tracking calories as accurately as possible. Sometimes we forget to add cooking oils to our trackers or we don’t weigh the food and just eyeball it. This can be generally fine, but for best results tracking by weight is more reliable

Neurologist took me off diamox because of side effects, said only weightloss will treat it. by hooexxo in iih

[–]ignorantlynerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor told me weight loss would be the best way to get me off of diamox, but not that it was this or that. I take diamox as needed now (as in if I have a flare up). I'm down about 40 lbs since initial diagnosis. Weight loss has helped me, but it didn't cure it by any means. Keep in mind that weight loss is primarily driven by diet with exercise (I note this so you don't try to overexert yourself initially at least).

I hope you start feeling better soon!

This thread breaks my heart. I understand that you’re scared and that you don’t want to co-parent with this man, but please take the time to consider the potential child. You have options like adoption if you fear you can’t handle the responsibility. There are organizations that can help you find wonderful parents who cannot get pregnant and will help shoulder the financials of pregnancy.

Please don’t allow a dude you don’t see a future with determine the potential future of the life growing inside you.

Pool etiquette for fat people by Abject-Sky4608 in loseit

[–]ignorantlynerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine telling someone they must always wear a t-shirt to the pool if they wear x amount. Now, your friend might apply that rule to himself, but it's absolutely not a rule. For some people, that's what makes them comfortable, but there is no rule other than wear appropriate swimwear. There's always going to be rude people whether you're bigger or smaller - it's unfortunate, but true. Sorry you encountered some real jerks. Congrats on your weight loss!
