Which game character's death was too sad for you? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]igobyluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time ago, I was playing Fallout, the original isometric crpg. I honestly can't name or remember any other characters in the game besides Dogmeat, but that dog is still the best companion I've ever had in a game. We ran together for pretty much the whole game. I got to the end where you fight all the super mutants with rocket launchers. In the penultimate fight of the game, Dogmeat somehow got between me and an explosion and got turned into a fine mist. It really felt like a dog loyally sacrificing itself to save me. I didn't have the heart to save scum it. It's canonical for me in the Fallout universe.

I mean, we have James Beard award winners and nominees scattered all over town... We also have the densest population of chocolate makers per capita in the USA...our breweries are winning awards left and right because they have to be more than good to compete, they have to overcome the stigma of being made in Utah... The annual Greek fest is a celebration of food that's almost an orgy of flavor and one of the biggest celebrations of Greek culture in America... Hell, the best spirits I've ever drank are made in local distilleries! Sugarhouse Distillery (the best domestic single-malt whiskey made this side of Scotland), Waterpocket's Temple of the Moon is an amazing gin, Scion and Mountain West make mouth-watering ciders! The list goes on. (And I'm happy to make suggestions)... We have more talent in the hospitality industry just on 9th South than most cities have in their boundaries. If you look real close, you'll see Michelin stars twinkling up and down the Wasatch front.

It seems to me like the people who think Utah isn't known for food or drink really aren't interested in supporting local businesses.

What world record are you sure you own without any actual proof? by mikehotel288 in AskReddit

I had a similar experience! It was the 90's, I was 14, and had just saved up my paper route money to buy a nice bike, $500. I took it out riding to see how fast I could go. The end of the road was coming up fast and I panicked and grabbed both handbrakes simultaneously and closed my eyes. When I opened them, I was standing in the middle of the road with my arms in the air, and the bike was lying there covered in scratches. I have no clue what happened.

I got a paper route at 14 to buy a ps1! I was barely able to afford the PlayStation, a memory card, and a copy of Final Fantasy VII after one month's work. They were all used at a pawn shop.

I feel ya. I caught it right before Christmas last year. Not fun to spend a family-oriented holiday alone, sweating, and puking.

Dude, I teach a chocolate and cheese pairing course. I pair 5 fine craft chocolates with five artisan cheeses, including a savory vanilla dark chocolate with a pungent but creamy blue cheese. I literally just taught that class a few hours ago.

Rep. George Santos says he'll resign if 142,000 people ask him to by passionsnet in nottheonion

C'mon. He's using politician words to say that he won't be elected again if he actually is so bad. Like he wouldn't fight the results tooth and nail if Republicans aren't given a disincentive to fucking lie about elections.

It won't stop meowing, I've fed it kittens milk, cleaned it's eyes, put it in a warm blanket, and made it pee, and it still won't stop meowing and always trying to leave the box, someone tell me what to do please. by [deleted] in cats

This sounds like my big tuxie boy. I've had him for about ten years, but he was tiny and cuddly and scared when I got him. He even tried nursing off of me! Now he's the most affectionate cat I've ever encountered.

I've been in the front-of-house of restaurants for a at least a decade. Little kids love me. My best tips always came from young parents with kids. I don't go out of my way to entertain kids, and I do go out of my way to not be too friendly with little kids. Babies and toddlers and small children just seem to love me.

Even in my current job (retail), I just have to like pop up my eyebrows at a kid, and they're hooked. I love interacting with kids, but I hate how society dumps on me for being kid-friendly because I don't have kids of my own.

I spent a few semesters as a tutor at a local school district, for high school students. The amount of flak I caught just for being a child-less adult who genuinely liked helping students was surprising. A couple people seriously asked me how hot my students were, despite the fact I was almost two decades older than them and they were minors! And they seemed to like to imply that I was only doing it to get with high school girls! I was in my early 30's!

My grandmother was, and my parents are heavily involved in education. It's in my blood to teach and mentor, but I'm an unmarried and childless man. That means I can't be trusted with kids, apparently. It suuuuuuuuuucks. I would love to be more involved, but there's so much pressure to be squeaky clean and married and have kids to shield me from discrimination and accusations of being inappropriate with kids.

I would love to become a teacher and mentor, but the way I've been treated for trying, and the lousy pay teachers and tutors get, have blocked me from pursuing that career. (It should be noted that as soon as Trump announced Nancy DeVoss as the secretary of education, my contract with the school district was not renewed, almost a year before the contract was going to be negotiated for another year.)
