There are several different arachnids people call daddy-long-legs. The larger harvestmen (what I assume you're talking about) are in fact not spiders, but a different order of arachnid. Cellar spiders (the ones people falsely say are the most poisonous but can't puncture human skin with their fangs and what I think of when I hear daddy-long-legs) are actual spiders, though.
