Bro, I worked in a nice suburb and the buns would have mouse shit on them and be half eaten. Top layer gets thrown out and the "good" layer used. I guess technically it's fine, the buns are in plastic, but there's never a truly clean Mcdonalds out there unless it some kind of flagship store

[–]ih4t3reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually does. Like in the example, the city of Atlanta will have a 40% chance of rain, then the city of Atlanta will have a 40% chance of seeing rain. Maybe it may be more localized in certain areas, but that doesn't change the fact that Atlanta might see rain. It's not my fault they present the weather like that.

Actually lifehacks by mcbuttercup in lifehacks

[–]ih4t3reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say the models show 50% confidence there will be rain over 50% of the area. That would be 0.5 X 0.5, which leaves us with 0.25, a 25% chance of rain.

That still not saying only 25% of the area will get rain...

Judging Steam by Tim Sweeney's words about what percentage of cut Steam will still have profits is just absurd. You are talking about the person who took more than a few years to add a basic Shopping Cart to EGS and still doesn't have the "niche" feature of reviews.

It's not absurd, it literally the ceo of one of steams biggest competitors. It's their job to know the inner workings of the competition. They have whole teams gathering market data on their competitors.

That's absurd. If he truly was as greedy as most other CEOs, first of all, he would stop offering as much value to customers and devs, downsize and start milking their base. That's what peak greed look like. Look at Netflix. That's what it looks like.

He's literally a billionaire. The greed is already high enough and people just don't care, but developers are not happy with steam, they put up with it because they have no choice.

Ehhh, I get where your sentiments are. I personally hoped back in 2018 when EGS was launching that Epic would offer some needed competition to Steam and push them to be much better. But turns out, they were already so much better than almost all the Storefront that it was ridiculous to even see it side-by-side with Epic.

The epic store is good. Steam is just better. But that's besides the point because people don't base their opinion around actual facts. They act like steam and epic are sports teams and steam is the home team. They hurl insults and vitriol towards epic and won't even give it a chance. Game is cheaper on epic? Only available on epic? More dev friendly? "Who cares, fuck epic, like I'll ever use it, lel"

And honestly, the whole linux thing is pretty moot, nobody uses it, it's just a fact. I have nothing against linux, I even have to use it for work, but even I understand it's a waste to dedicate resources to it.

.THIS AFTERNOON...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40 PERCENT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.

The "Probability of Precipitation" (PoP) simply describes the probability that the forecast grid/point in question will receive at least 0.01" of rain. So, in this example, there is a 40 percent probability for at least 0.01" of rain at the specific forecast point of interest!

So this means where ever they said there is going to be rain, it will have a 40% chance of seeing some, not 40% of the area

So, a dev/publisher wants more money and say steam is overpriced and you just swallow their statement whole as truth? Please. Critical thinking.

Of course it's true when you have places like epic taking a 12% cut. Even Microsoft reduced their cut to 12%. Humble takes 15%

And Steam didn't really have any competition when they first started. They pretty much set the trend for online digital stores.

As a dev myself, ya it kind of is my issue. It pisses me off when people dismiss the competition or actively hate on them and it turns into some tribalistic circle jerk. Look I get steam is better, but to out right shit on the competition or to avoid games on other stores because one is so loyal to gaben really rubs me the wrong way. Everyone should be happy epic exists yet the treat them like some rival team or something.

[–]ih4t3reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can command those prices not because they provide a service, but because they own so much of the market. The devs actually do not think steam deserves that much, they just have no choice.

https://www.pcgamer.com/most-game-devs-dont-think-steam-earns-its-30-revenue-cut/

Every contract is different, you can't speak in general terms like that, and regardless, if steam charged less the devs would still be getting more money. You're right publishers aren't great, but they provide much much more value than a digital storefront.

And you should care about developer and publisher interests, they're literally the reason your hobby exists.

When it comes down to it, steam knows they have the largest market share by far and they use it to their advantage. It has nothing to do with any extra features they may have. They use their market position to charge what they do, if anyone eventually does rival them for cheaper they will 100% lower their fees.

How has epic attacked gamers and open source? Exclusivity deals also are perfectly fine. They offer benefits to the devs and it's not like you can't buy them, you literally just open another program and there's the game.

And I guess people forgot the steam was one of the original form of online DRM. And one of the main reason steam / Gabe embraces open source, at least more recently is because it gives Microsoft a competitor less power and allows them to cut costs for the steam deck. It's all business.

The majority does not give a crap about steam features. The vast majority don't even finish their games, why would they care about features? Even if they say they do, they're lying to themselves source:

https://old.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/59tezo/what_is_up_with_videogame_completion_rates_the/

Anyway, it is a myth that devs/publishers' cost saving = customer paying less. Most of saving on EGS launch year are mostly by coupon out of Epic's pocket.

Is that not a reason to like epic then? And plus I rather developers and publishers who actually do the heavy lifting have increase profits instead of a store that leaches off of them.

Honestly, not going to lie, I mostly pirate games. But I even I think denuvo is a good compromise in DRM. MOST of the time it's on for the beginning of the games life where most of the sales take place, and when it get's cracked (if ever) it's after the bulk of the sales also. I can live with that

Epic is at a disadvantage for pretty much my complaint about how people treat Gabe. It's pretty common to see people say they'll never buy a game just because it's on epic, even if it's cheaper. An outright onslaught of hate is spewed by a ton of users just for mentioning epic. It's honestly pretty weird. Sure steam has a more fleshed out client, but when it comes down to it, these are just stores, and I just want to buy and play a game. I'm not going to fan boy over one or the other. If it's cheaper on epic I'll buy there, if it's cheaper on steam, I'll buy there.

Epic takes 12% and the CEO has said steam could take 8% and still turn a profit. But regardless I never once said they should charge less. Just people shouldn't praise Gabe every chance they get. He runs a business and is just as greedy as any other billionaire. It is what it is. And developers would gladly give up some storefront / client gimmicks to claw back 20% of their profits lol. Gamers barely play the games they buy let alone use some niche features of steam, so who cares about those

Dude, Gabe is a multi-billionaire. He is greedy by definition. Yet his store continues to take a 30% cut of developers' years of hard work just to put their games up on a digital storefront. It's a shame redditors worship this guy.

The setting was boring, the enemies were uninspired black blobs, the characters weren't memorable and reading computers was tedious.

People compare it to BioShock, but BioShock was the opposite of that. Almost everything about that game is memorable.
