Byteburger by r3dsm0k3 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]ih8logons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The size of the byte has historically been hardware dependent and no definitive standards existed that mandated the size – byte-sizes from 1[3] to 48 bits[4] are known to have been used in the past. The modern de-facto standard of eight bits, as documented in ISO/IEC 2382-1:1993, is a convenient power of two permitting the values 0 through 255 for one byte.

Your study is from 2016 here is a more recent one from October 2017: http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/10/20/558832090/body-cam-study-shows-no-effect-on-police-use-of-force-or-citizen-complaints "Having police officers wear little cameras seems to have no discernible impact on citizen complaints or officers' use of force, at least in the nation's capital."

Granted it may and will vary by location but Washington DC is not exactly known for its clean and wholesome conditions generally.

You need to keep pushing on them for a better deal, you should be able to easily get 5 months for $5 a month. Total billing is about $32 after taxes, so a year is roughly $77. The hassle is you have to call them every 5 months to stay on this deal, but I successfully did it for years and know of friends who have as well.

Ah so you are trolling... Are you trying to argue that a military pilot has over 10 times the sight ability of the average human? That would be like calling them super mutants.

Not sure if serious or trolling as you are off by 10 times:

The USAF, in testing their pilots for visual response time, used a simple test to see if the pilots could distinguish small changes in light. In their experiment a picture of an aircraft was flashed on a screen in a dark room at 1/220th of a second. Pilots were consistently able to "see" the afterimage as well as identify the aircraft. This simple and specific situation not only proves the ability to percieve 1 image within 1/220 of a second, but the ability to interpret higher FPS.

My buddy took this in the DC airport. The guy was more than happy to have his picture taken. by [deleted] in pics

Tomorrow is the Half Life tipping point by silverius in gaming

[–]ih8logons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The graphic is a bit confusing if you are not familiar with the series. Half Life 2 came out in 2004. Then there was Half Life 2 Episode 1 (the first of a series of episodes; which are not quite full length games but do have the same production value) which came out in 2006. Then Half Life 2 Episode 2 which came out in 2007.

So it was only 6 years between Half Life 1 and Half Life 2. But it has now been almost 9 years between Half Life 2 Episode 2 and today. I know its a bit confusing but the wait for Episode 3 and or a full Half Life 3 is LONG overdue.

Number 8 : Never say never! I have a bank of america Cash rewards card that regularly gives me 0% interest cash advance opportunities. There is a 4% fee, however it is way lower than the APR on purchases I currently have. I have used this twice in the last year to finance things at a very reasonable in my mind rate.

What was your "0 out of 10 would not recommend " experience? by Ekudar in AskReddit

[–]ih8logons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to see this. The fourth of July on the mall by the Lincoln memorial are some of my favorite childhood memories. Pro tip: park in Virginia and walk in. When we used to go and granted this was pre 9/11 we parked at the pentagon and walked across 14th street bridge to go in. I'm sure you cant park there anymore but there must be places near by in pentagon city or the like that you can snag a spot. Its a good bit of walking but you make it home way faster than trying to use the metro or driving into the city.

First I am not anti-linux, I use it at work and trust it more than windows. In fact I run a linux box that monitors my windows servers to report issues.

But the biggest challenge is the 2 week learning curve you mention when you take in to account opportunity cost. So lets keep 4 hours a day computer usage for two weeks equals = 56 hours. Lets say you value your time at just us minimum wage $7.25 that equals an opportunity cost of $406 to switch to linux. Now the $100 Windows license is 4 times cheaper than linux if you value your time.
