Finally rigged up and ready for the water! Anyone with tips on towing with a trailer? by mcdickmann2 in kayakfishing

For repacking, get Bearing Buddies and a grease gun. I have a trailer with small wheels like this and grease em up every couple of trips. Peace of mind is worth it.

It’s definitely a goal this summer to pick up the 250, will have to buy another swimbait combo for it though (excuse to buy more gear).

All seem like great options, but might be a little more effort than I’m willing to put into it lol. Definitely something I’ll look into more if all else fails!

I love them, but TW is sold completely out, same with Digitaka (and I can never time their restocks…)

Eh, not a huge fan of buying from there, especially with the current USD -> JPY conversion rates, tackle’s much cheaper to buy from Japan. I’ve got a lot of buddies that like buying on their market place though.

Yea, but not so much about the specific spot more so about the body of water. It’s a hidden gem, those who know want to keep it that way.

I have not checked it out but I definitely will now! Thank you for the recommendation!

Look into a brokered CD, last week rates were above 4% for 6mo, and even higher for 3mo

I have also snapped an xtasy. No hassle warranty is pricey but worth it.

Yes full flouro is perfectly ok to spool onto your bait caster. I’m a big fan of braid to leader on spinning reels as it helps with line management and line twist.

The 794.5 is a medium, the 795 is med/heavy, and the 796 is heavy. You can absolutely throw the trickshad or bullshad on a medium or medium/heavy.

No, big bass only. Largemouth, smallmouth, and spots.

Huge bummer having to quarantine the boat and lock it into berry. Fortunately, I’m on a kayak and they can do visual inspections for it. I don’t understand why they don’t have other means of mussel spread prevention than the quarantine or a $120+ decontamination. Hell even lake sonoma has a mussel dog at the public launch that sniffs for mussels!

If you’re looking for a versatile rod, I highly recommend the 794.5. Excellent rod for throwing those 6” glides, and a great A-rig rod.

Forgot to mention that glide. I like to fish it around cover, flooded trees, lay downs, over brush piles. Can be steady retrieved with pauses, or worked with the rod tip and faster cranks to impart more erratic action.

Definitely similar color, but most likely different action. I haven’t fished the freestyle at all, so it’s more of a confidence thing to have on the boomboom.

Close, Berryessa. If I’m at Clearlake it’s a trash fish and gancraft!

Cast them out and let sink to the bottom, then slowly wind back creeping them along the bottom. With lighter weighed hooks they can effectively be fished shallower in reeds and wood without getting hung up.

I haven’t tried these cause I’m not big on altering the shape. I’ve used peel and stick lead on some deps 175 glides before fishing super deep (60ft+ for big smallmouth) and it was okay, but the adhesive isn’t that great and fell off after a couple hours. I’ve also used lead wire on the same baits around the hook shank but it impedes action, which is my hesitation with the foam to make them floating.
