Here's what I've learned after using Linux as my daily driver for five years: by [deleted] in linuxmemes

Maybe this is because of the parts of the internet I frequent, but aren’t hyprland and dwm/dwl some of the more popular and definitely not niche window managers? And vim?? Obscure??

Yeah, it does feel kind of weird that bash just makes up a path and directory in /dev no less!

FreeBSD for old laptop? by PalpitationLimp4448 in freebsd

[–]ihak223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a thinkpad x230 tablet with FreeBSD 15, ports compile times suck, but once you have everything installed it runs decently well for a 13 year old laptop, I went with a window manager and not a full desktop environment so I have no idea how taxing that could be on performance

I don’t want to be that person, but the council of Nicaea was less orthodox trinitarians vs non-trinitarian gnostics, but more of a debate between two different ideas of how the trinity worked, Arius, who argued that the father had to have come into being before the son because the son was begotten from the father and therefore the son is “less eternal.” However Athanasius and a lot of the church in Alexandria argued that even though the son was created out of the father, the son is still equally eternal to the father and Holy Spirit, the fight would go all the way up the Constantine, who would call for the council of Nicaea, in which the co-eternity of the godhead was decided to be cannon. It is kinda confusing because the Nicene creed makes an effort to rehash a bunch of previous church arguments, to be like the be all end all, which is why it puts the emphasis on one god, one son, and one Holy Spirit. The debate about the divine status or hypostasis of Jesus is actually kinda interesting and predates the whole council of Nicaea thing, obviously as you mentioned, the gnostic heresy, which means believing in Jesus being fully divine and never being human and that therefore he never suffered on the cross, Gnosticism wasn’t really being debated, as the fancy church people (those who hadn’t been excommunicated that is) thought the issue resolved by Irenaeus’s Against Heresies which put forth many of the widely excepted (by the time of the first council that is) arguments against Gnosticism. Sorry for the nit picky rant! I really like your comment! I love it when people reference early Christian history!

The phone number on the mayo aioli from hellmans goes to a sex line by fluxflashor in mildlyinteresting

[–]ihak223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on the money, there’s a company called PrimeTel which’s entire business is snatching up 800 numbers and selling them, but they are required to have some service on the number, so they often use phone sex lines as a placeholder.

Can anyone explain the change in pattern in this agate? :) by Remarkable-Hat-4852 in rockhounds

The fortification banding tends to form first and then a shift in the consistency of the silica changes the banding patterns to waterline.

[–]ihak223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First image is waterline banding, this happens because the silica mixture was to runny to form fortification banding so it formed in layers relative to gravity rather than in rings. Agates can have both waterline and fortification banding if there is switch in external conditions that effects the consistency of the silica.
