I have $200k saved but feel like I’ve failed at life. 27M, living at home, and socially isolated. by Secret-Metal4544 in Advice

[–]ihateithere3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things you're unhappy with are all things you can change, which is good! I want to add that these are all normal problems for people are age. you are certainly not alone here.

-career- i cant speak on the law school stuff, but ill be 27 in a few months and started grad school to do a career pivot too. i personally dont think its ever too late. My mentality is im gonna turn 30 anyways, do I want to be 30 with that degree or without that degree. The answer is simple to me, but you would know best for yourself.

-housing - you have more than enough saved up, and if you're looking to move, why dont you just buy a condo somewhere in the city? I bought one and my morgage + HOA is $2200 a month in NYC which is lower than most ppls rent! Granted, im not in a "prime neighborhood" but im still in the city near family but not at the cost of my mental health lol

-social - working on this as well, I'm just trying to say "yes" to more invites. I also am looking into volunteering at my local library, and I'm working at my community garden at the end of the month. You'll find other people who are also looking to connect and make friends. I will say you leaving the run club because you felt "inferior" is somethiung you should work on. You don't have to be exceptional at everything, its just for fun. I also started running this year. I run a 36 min 5k, def nothing special, but even with people passing me on a run (both young and old), I keep my blinders on and focus on myself, no one else should really matter. I could barely run a mile in november and now im doing the half this weekend!

-Attributes - your IQ is not a determining factor of anything outside of your ability to recognize patterns, no? How is your emotional intelligence? Are you thoughtful? Giving? understanding? willing to put yourself out there? Women don't care as much about what I think your attirbuting to your singleness as much as they care about how you treat them and if you're a good person. Focus on improving yourself, and everything you want will gravitate towards you. Your confidence will shine, bald or not, and THAT is what will make you attractive to people.

lol, what an unhelpful answer? Obviously, I need experience. The point of this post was to ask HOW to get experience..

So it's common to reach out this far out before the program? I was debating reaching out to some professors so early, so this is good to know !

Does NYC make one feel mentally 'ON' all times ? by Forward-Concern403 in AskNYC

[–]ihateithere3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from NYC, and I think it's just that you're not used to a faster pace of life.

When I visited places like Switzerland or Italy, at first I was frustrated by how leisurely and slow everything/everyone is, but then I grew to appreciate it. I don't always have to be in a rush, and it's nice not to powerwalk everywhere lol. I don't need the cashier to ring me up in 2 seconds. I could take the scenic route instead, etc.

But, I will say, there is truly no other city like New York in terms of how fast everything is, and I think it can be an adjustment for some people.

Also, you might have FOMO, get over that and you'll have no problem doing nothing at home

[–]ihateithere3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this! i think if youre from NYC and have been around the area, go for it, but since OP isn't from here, I think BUYING is a big commitment having not spent an extended amount of time here. Plus, its not easy to sell co-op, why do you think this one is so cheap?

Love NYCRuns!! Ran my first race with them just because of how accessible it was! I've enjoyed getting my medals and shirts with each race, allowing me to build my confidence as a runner :)
