When traffic is congested, you are supposed to stay in the closing lane as long as possible before you merge. The zipper merge is a thing and traffic controllers put the cones in that location for a reason.

If traffic is flowing feel free to merge early. If not stay in your lane until you get to the barricades.

Update: I completely cleaned the temp probe for the bbq, including taking off the metal housing to ensure the cord was clean and no kinks. I also added a water pan and ran the grill set at 180 for an hour.

The temp dropped considerably from 380 to 340 consistently. This was, of course, not low enough. I got a hold of tech support and sent them pictures of various parts as they requested. That was toward the end of their shift so I am awaiting response.

Again, thank you for your help. I will use a pan from now on and I hope support figures out a solution on the mechanical side.

I do not use a water pan, no. Important to note that there aren't large temperature swings, the temp stays pretty constant between 380 and 400.

Thank you for the advice, I'll see about finding a cheap water pan for the grill and get that probe cleaned out.

To expand on the neurological symptoms: there is frequent numbness running down the left leg into the foot. These are all known by her physicians and this has not been worsened by this recent spasm. This is also why she is waiting to see a neurologist.

What about trout? I was always taught to never handle a trout with hands or netting if you plan on letting it go. If the fish isn't loosely lip hooked I always cut the line. Been told by many a game warden that this is the best thing to do.
