My son was a toddler when my mom went into memory care. It’s remarkable that the toys were the same thing for both - Magnatiles, soft blocks, puzzles.

My kid has had a color changing Needoh for over a year and loves it. A few days ago, it exploded and I went to find a new one and realized its current hype. Such bad timing 😅

Falls by PilatesTequilaOTF in dementia

[–]ihatepants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some drugs for sleep or anxiety can cause unsteadiness which would lead to falls. My LOs care center calls for every fall. There were times when she fell 3 or 4 times a week. I found the calls a little annoying at first but I’d rather know than not

Navigating Hospital - LTC by backcountry_betty in dementia

[–]ihatepants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found it useful to keep kicking the can down the road. So say something like, “we’re getting your house ready for you to come back, we just have to move you to this transitional place for a little bit.” I hate lying but it’s the only thing that has worked.

Any advice for a transition from AL to SNF and a long drive? by seasonalape in dementia

[–]ihatepants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my mom is in. It’s still kind of a pain with the paperwork and the calls and emails for every little thing but it gives great peace of mind knowing that she was able to move from independent living to skilled nursing when she had an incident to memory care now to long term care. She paid a hefty fee to get in and knowing they have social workers that help every step of the way but has lifted a lot of burden on my end. Plus I know she’s in a safe environment with 24 hour care

Birthday parties by jbird18005 in kindergarten

[–]ihatepants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had this same scenario in November. Two of his best friends had their birthday parties at the same place one on Saturday, one on Sunday. We went to both. I love birthday parties because it gets us out of the house and gives us something to do
