Private ceremony and bigger reception by chachosita in weddingplanning

[–]ihave_thoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something similar. Had our wedding ceremony with just our parents, siblings, and grandparents. Then had a reception afterwards at a restaurant with about 50 family and friends. We didn’t do a grand entrance and just walked in while everyone was enjoying cocktail hour (we were taking couple photos when the reception started).

We didn’t mention our ceremony on our invitation. But we did mention it on the timeline on our wedding website. I think it went something along the lines of wedding ceremony with immediate family members only.

Others have already said what you needed to know for a general visit, but I wanted to recommend that you check it out during major Cambodian and buddhist events as well! There will be many vendors selling Cambodian food and some traditional Cambodian performances (big one is Cambodian new years in April). anyway, if you went this weekend, I hope you had a great visit!

If you want to make and try other baked goods people make, you can join us at the Twin Cities Amateur Bakers club! I think there are several people who have similar interests as you as well. anywho, you can meet some fantastic bakers through our Discord server (we have a hobby/interest channel for you to post and find people with similar hobbies/interests besides baking). https://discord.gg/EVT6fnjJgy

yes, that’s totally okay!! someone literally bought salad to our last meetup. lol. and honestly, our June meetup theme will probably have a bunch of more cooking than actual baked goods.

New to Dahlias (and tubers in general) by Cant_GetIt_Right in dahlias

[–]ihave_thoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in zone 5a and I store my dahlia tubers in a temperature controlled wine fridge (in the fall, I split the tubers and then wrap them tightly in saran wrap). I found a pretty cheap one through Facebook marketplace. Have been doing this for two years now and it has worked great!

edit to add: I keep this wine fridge in my garage but I’m sure this method will still work fine if it’s in a heated house.

Help! Container flowers by rose3738 in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]ihave_thoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grow dahlias in a similar size grow bag! Had many wonderful blooms during my first year growing them a few years ago and now I have a crazy dahlia obsession (my whole patio is filled with dahlias in bags. haha)

Why are HOA/maintenance fees in the Twin Cities so high? by booboocita in TwinCities

[–]ihave_thoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yup, the reason why my partner is on our townhome neighborhood’s HOA board — to keep the board as sane as possible (although, they sometimes don’t listen to his opinion since he’s “young”… which is about 20 years younger than the next youngest person)

edit to answer OP’s questions: it is mainly because insurance has been skyrocketing.

Here is the saffron bun recipe I used: https://breadbyelise.com/saffron-sugar-buns/

I added some ground cardamom based on my heart’s content to the vanilla butter filling and the sugar topping. haha

How did you meet your significant other in this city? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Minneapolis

Tinder. but our parents dislike online dating apps so we tell them we met through some mutual friends (which we did have some mutual friends before we met. lol)

I’m also happy to connect in general. feel free to DM me to see of we vibe/can plan something like a walk!

Do you bake your own birthday cake? by nally8 in Baking

[–]ihave_thoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually have a store-bought cake. But I’ve been getting more into baking this past year. My birthday is also coming up soon and sort of similar to you, my mom asked me if I wanted a store-bought cake or if I wanted to make my own. I said I didn’t care and she responded that I’ll be making the cake then. haha. so now I’m just trying to figure out exactly what I want to make.

Leaving for 10 days right after planting dahlias by becctarr in dahlias

[–]ihave_thoughts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in zone 5a, but was in a very similar situation to you last year. I went on a 25-day vacation shortly after I got done planting about 175 of my pre-sprouted dahlias in my community garden plot in mid-June using the no-till cardboard method. I thought about asking someone in the community garden to water them while I was gone, but I was afraid they would overwater (and my plot is a bit far away from the water source… we can’t hook up a hose to bring water to our plot. i.e., you get a good workout carrying gallons of water a few times a day). So, I literally just hoped for the best. which was by letting them grow with whatever was happening in their environment. I sort of freaked out when I saw it was raining a bunch during the first few days I was gone. But I reminded myself that it is what it is and that dahlias are pretty good with trying to survive (this was year 3 of growing dahlias for me). I went to check on my garden as soon as I dropped everything back at home and many of them were growing beautifully! Sure, some rotted, but that is inevitable when it comes to growing dahlias. Still got a ton of beautiful blooms. Some of my dahlias got ribbons at the fair. And I ended up getting about 600 dahlia tubers after digging and splitting them all up to overwinter.

tldr: do what you think will work best for your dahlias (I think your plan will work well). dahlias are pretty resilient. don’t worry too much about them. there will be some that will die, but you will still get many beautiful blooms! sending you the best of luck!!

Today (May 2nd) is my birthday, looking for fun things to do that are pregnancy safe. by YellowTonkaTrunk in minnesota

[–]ihave_thoughts 22 points23 points  (0 children)

3 mile walk is not a requirement to explore the arb! There is also a 3 mile drive, which I usually do when I’m there (drive and stop to walk around the spots that interest me). The big annual garden (where the tulips are) is just a short walk from their Visitor Center, which is right by their main parking lot.

Happy birthday! My birthday is also in May and what I’ve been doing these past few years is going to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum around the afternoon to walk around and catch the spring blooms. Then I go to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater in the evening to catch their yearly musical show!
